Solo Cups and Spiked Drinks

Something was terribly, terribly wrong.

Despite his best efforts, Brian had not been able to get Jungwoo and Yukhei to meet. And the 'Destiny Party' as Brian like to call it, was still going on. It may not have been Johnny's party this time, but if everything was going to unfold the same way it had last time, Jungwoo and Yukhei were destined to meet tonight.

Not only had Brian's plans been foiled, but Jungwoo and Yukhei had dates.

Yes, dates.

A short-haired girl clung to Yukhei arm, tipping drink after drink down his throat and peppering him with sticky pink-lipstick kisses. That wasn't that unusual.

But what was unusual was that Jungwoo had a date. None other than the infamous Jae.

On one very, very small hand, this could be positive. If Jungwoo was willing to go to a party with someone other than Taeho, it meant that they were drifting further apart. And on top of that, Brian had...err...borrowed the engagement ring Taeho had bought, so Jungwoo would never know that Taeho wanted to marry him.

But on the other, much larger, hand, what if Jungwoo got attached to Jae? What if he...fell in love?

Brian sighed, though the sound was drowned out by the throbbing of the music in the party. He clutched a red solo cup in his hand, watching the water swirl around inside of it.

'That's so boring. Why don't you try something a little stronger?' the girl who had given him the water had said.

And with the way things were going, Brian really did want to try something a little stronger. But he had to be sober the whole night. He had to make sure he knew where Jungwoo and Yukhei were the whole time.

Brian sighed for the second time that night, putting down his drink in exchange for taking out his phone.

He took one glance at Jungwoo before beginning to text.

Kang Brian: Rosemary

Kang Brian: just so u know...

Kang Brian: things aren't going too well

Rosemary: Why? What do you mean?

Kang Brian: I mean that the party from last time is still happening

Kang Brian: And Jungwoo and Yukhei haven't met yet

Kang Brian: they both have dates 2

Kang Brian: idk what to do anymore

Rosemary: What does 'idk' mean, Brian? I can't quite remember.

Kang Brian: I don't know

Rosemary: Well I would've thought you did, you used it after all.

Kang Brian: omg

Kang Brian: I cba to explain rn I'll just call u later

Rosemary: Brian what does 'cba' mean?

Rosemary: And 'rn'.

Rosemary: And you still haven't told me what 'idk' means.

Rosemary: Honestly, all this texting business is very confusing, I can barely manage phone calls.

Brian placed his phone down on the table.

He'd only been working this job for a week and it was already more infuriating than all of the other jobs he'd done put together.

He picked up his cup, lifting it to his mouth.

There's nothing like water to clear your head...

"Hey don't drink that!" a voice said suddenly.

Brian lowered his arm, looking around.

"Yeah you! You! Don't drink that!"

Brian identified the owner of the voice and his stomach dropped.

Jae...

"Dude you really shouldn't drink that. Some sketchy guy tipped something into it while you were on your phone."

Brian looked down at the clear liquid. Nothing seemed in unusual about it...

"Err...thanks I guess..." he said, putting the drink down before turning around to walk away,

"Wait!" Jae said.

To turn or not to turn.

Reluctantly, Brian turned around to look at the blonde boy. He had potentially saved his life, after all. The least Brian could do was listen to him.

"Yes?"

"Why have you been looking at my date all night?" Jae asked, arms crossed.

Well, of all the things Brian had been expecting, that hadn't been in the top three.

Not even in the top ten.

Not even in the top hundred.

"I...err..."

There was a lot of things Brian was good at. Such as: disguising himself, martial arts, and making grilled cheese sandwiches.

But one thing he was not good at was confrontation. He backed away, grabbing his phone and stuffing it into his pocket.

He made a break for it...

But he was only able to take two steps forward before Jae grabbed his hand, twisting him around.

And fireworks crackled behind Brian's eyes, exploding inside his skull and inside his body. His whole body went numb.

He'd spent years researching what this was.

And yet he could only think one word. Just one short word.

Fuck.
