Chapter 13

Chloe

At the end of our meal, it costs $143.97

i look at the bill.

then pull out a couple 20's out of my purse

"Chloe Lukasiak what the hell do you think you are doing?"

i look up at him. my hand still on the money

"Im paying for my portion."

"Chlo. its our first date. let me pay."

he tries to grab the book but i pull it away.

he snatches it out of my hands and puts a credit card inside.

he playfully sticks his tongue out at me.

the lady grabs the book and rushes away without saying a word.

i laugh and kiss him on the cheek from across the table.

i put a couple fives on the table for a tip and he glares at me.

the same lady brings back the book and we leave.

josh and i walk hand in hand outside.

the full moon shimmers on the little fountain behind the benches out in front of the doors.

we walk on the stone path to the bench and sit down

"I really had a good time today Josh."

"Me too."

he leans in to kiss me and i lean in a little.

a jolt of sparks soar.

fireworks bursting from our intersecting lips.

the perfect moment, with the perfect guy, in the perfect place

its all perfect.

i pull away, not wanting to, but i get a call.

Josh looks at me, stunned.

"im gonna take this really quick."

he shoos my off.

"hello?"

"Chloe Lukasiak?"

"yes?"

"your sister and mother were in an accident."

"what?! what happened?!"

"some car smashed into the drivers side while crossing an intersection."

"are they ok?"

"not really. i reccomend you come down and say goodbye."

he hangs up.

im frozen.

i breakdown.

i get on my knees and cry.

josh rushes to my side.

"Chloe, what happened?"

"my mom and sister got in a car accident tonight."

he holds me.

"lets go."

i hang up the phone and he drives me to the hospital.
