I wake up from bed with a start. I turn and look at the alarm clock on my nightstand. It says 3:24. "Great," I think sarcastically. I still have another four hours until I have to wake up and I know that I will be extremely tired today since I hadn't slept good all week. I knew that trying to go back to sleep was a waste of time, I was to excited to go back to sleep anyway. Professor McGonagall is taking me to Diagon Alley today to shop for school supplies and I can't wait to finally be allowed to get off the grounds at Hogwarts and go some place other than Hogsmeade.
I turn over on my side to retrieve my welcoming letter to Hogwarts off of my nightstand. My list of materials included uniform robes, spell books, a wand, cauldron, vials, a telescope, etc. There was also a letter to parents reminding them that first years weren't allowed to bring their own broomsticks. I was disappointed about this rule. I loved Quidditch more than almost anything in the world. When I practice with some of the younger teachers I play chaser which means that I am the person that tries to score points by throwing the Quaffle (a red, leather-colored ball about the size of a football) through one of three big rings at both ends of the stadium.
My train of thought was interrupted when my puppy, Astro jumped onto my bed. He is something Muggles call an Australian Shepard. His eyes are different colors and his fur is multiple shades of black, gray, and orange. I picked Astro up and held him. He was almost small enough to be held in my hand since he was only a month old. I had gotten him last week on my birthday from Dumbledore and he was already my best friend. I know that that sounds cheesy but when you live in an enchanted castle with no one even remotely close to your age you tend to make friends in the weirdest of places. It is also quite rare to bring a dog for your pet because owls are more useful. However, I love dogs and I begged Dumbledore to get me a puppy.
After sitting and dreaming about picking out my school supplies. I decide to get up and get ready for today. I got out of my warm bed and made my way to the bathroom. This was one of the things I was going to miss when school starts. I will have to go live in my house dormitory and leave my room until summer comes again. My wallpaper in my room is a dark forest green with a leaf print on it. My bed covers are also green although all of my furniture is white. I know what it looks like, I like Slytherin. That's not the case. Although my room is green I would prefer to be sorted into Gryffindor or Ravenclaw for the brave or smart.
I washed my face and brushed my teeth. Then I brushed my dark brown, curly hair that came to about the middle of my back and put it into a braid down my back. I looked at the mirror and inspected the scar on my neck. Dumbledore told me that when I was only a year old an evil sorcerer who called himself Lord Voldemort killed my parents and tried to kill me too. However for some reason he couldn't and gave me this lightning-shaped scar instead. After that he disappeared and has been gone for a little over 10 years.
I walked back into my room and threw on a comfortable pair of jeans and a crimson-red t-shirt. I then put my sneakers on and went back into my room. I jumped onto my bed and got back under the covers with a book I was reading titled "Fighting Dark Wizards". This topic was the most interesting for me and I was excited to take Defense Against the Dark Arts class when school started.
After a while of I glanced at the clock and was shocked to see that it was already 6:27. I had to be ready to leave at around 7:00. I decided to go to the Great Hall and get some breakfast.
As I made my way down the stairs I saw Nearly Headless Nick. "Good morning," I said.
"Good morning Ms. Potter," he answered tilting his nearly decapitated head to one side in greeting, "I think that Professor McGonagall is waiting for you to go eat so that you can go ahead and leave."
"Thank you, I was just heading down," I answered politely. Nick was like an uncle to me. Just as I finished speaking I heard a shrill voice shout.
"Sophia Remus Potter, get down here this instant!" Professor McGonagall yelled.
"I'm coming!" I shouted back. I hated it when she used my full name. I turned my attention to Nick and said "I better get going. I'll see you around."
He nodded and I walked into the Great Hall.
Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore were sitting at the teachers' table sipping their morning cup of tea. McGonagall looked up when I walked in and said, "Where have you been?"
"Sorry," I said, "I was reading and lost track of time."
She signed and said, "Yes, well you're here now. Eat quickly. I would like to get there before 8:00."
She wasn't very surprised when I told her this. I am always late when I have a good book and I read a lot so I am late to most things. I sat down taking a cinnamon scone from a basket. I bit into the scone and smiled. Cinnamon scones are my favorite so I will have to go down to the kitchens later and thank the house elves for breakfast.
Dumbledore looked up and smiled. He is like a second father to me. "Take care and try to be home by 3:00," he said.
"Okay," I replied
A couple minutes later Professor McGonagall told me that it was time to go She took me by the arm and walked me off the grounds of Hogwarts. I can't wait until I got my wand, not to mention when school actually starts!
