The next morning I decided to go to breakfast. It was unusual for me since I normally used the morning to study and do extra homework. However, I was caught up on all work and for once in my life didn't feel like studying so I made my way down to the Great Hall.
When I arrived after about five minutes of walking, I took a seat my Hermione that was across from Harry and Ron. I started filling my plate with sausage and eggs while Ron, Harry and Hermione talked in low whispers. "Hi," I said. When they didn't answer I tried again, "What are you guys talking about?" This was unusual because I knew that Harry and Ron, especially Ron, did not like Hermione very much.
They looked up and stared at me like I was crazy. Hermione glanced at Harry and he nodded. "Promise you won't tell?"
"Yes, I promise," I said shrugging it off. Even though I was good at school I wasn't afraid to get into trouble.
"Well, yesterday at dinner Malfoy challenged me to a wizarding duel and I accepted," Harry paused seeing how I would react. Seeing that Harry was perfectly fine I was more mad, no furious with Draco and just frustrated with Harry.
"Why didn't you tell me, I could have gone with you?" I said quickly.
Ron waved me off, "We tried but you were already asleep, you didn't even come down to dinner."
"Also there wasn't any fighting, Malfoy never bothered to show," Harry added.
"He did it to get you in trouble for being out of bed," I reasoned out, thinking.
"Exactly what we were thinking," Hermione said, "He would have done it too but we quickly went into a room, the room that happened to be the third floor corridor that is forbidden."
My face went white. Dumbledore had told me to never go into that door at least once a day. I stared at them in shock. Finally the curiosity got the best of me asked, "What did you see?"
Ron frowned, "You'd think that she would be happier to see us alive." I glared daggers at him then switched my gaze to Harry.
"All we saw was a big, three-headed dog standing on a trap door," Harry said.
"All?" I said teasingly.
"You don't get it," Hermione interrupted, "The beast wasn't just standing on the trap door, he was guarding the trap door. We just need to find out what."
I thought about this for a minute. I knew that Hagrid knows a lot about magical creatures so he could maybe tell us some thing about the three-headed dog. I remember that Harry went with Hagrid to take something out of a vault in Gringotts that was Hogwarts business. "First, we need to go to Hagrid about the dog and whatever he took out of the vault when Harry was with him," I finally said.
"You're right," Hermione said, "We'll go right after school."
That day at school was one of the worst I've ever had. Snape called Hermione a brat and then took five points away from Gryffindor. I knew Hermione felt bad but really she didn't even do anything. Then Pansy Parkinson, a know-it-all from Slytherin started to insult me by calling me an idiot and other not so nice words. To my surprise she stopped when Draco came and stood in front of me. He told her to go away or his father would hear about this. Classic Draco. Parkinson then sat down in her seat. I took a seat next to Hermione and didn't even thank Draco. I was still furious at him for what he did to Harry.
After school all four of us headed down to Hagrid's hut. Along the way Hermione kept glancing at me. Finally I couldn't stand it anymore and said, "What?"
Hermione smirked and said, "He likes you, you know that?"
"Who likes her?" Harry asked. Great, he heard. However I also didn't know what she was talking about.
"Draco Malfoy," she said with the same smirk as before. Both Harry and I stopped at the same time.
"What!" we said.
"Yes, it is quite obvious actually," Hermione said.
I gave her a glare while Harry turned to me and angrily said, "He is not allowed to like my baby sister!"
"I'm only younger by two minutes," I said, "But you're right, anyway I don't like him back even if he does like me, which he doesn't."
"Okay," Hermione said with the smirk still on her face.
"Why would you even say he likes her in the first place," Ron butted in.
"Oh, because he stood up for her when Pansy Parkinson called her names," she said.
"Yep, he definitely likes her," Ron muttered under his breath.
"Can we just go to Hagrid's?" I said softly.
When we finally made it to the small hut that was Hagrid's home Ron stepped forward and knocked on the door. Hagrid immediately answered and welcomed us in.
I was disappointed to know that Hagrid wouldn't tell us anything about the three-headed dog and what was taken from the vault. Hermione and I made plans to go research in the library tomorrow for any scrap of information we could find.
We went back into the common room and played games the rest of the day. While Harry and Ron went to dinner Hermione and I made a list of what we knew so far. The list consisted of this:
1. A three-headed dog is guarding a trap door.
2. Within the trap door is something that Hagrid took out of vault seven hundred and thirteen.
3. Vault seven hundred and thirteen was "robbed" the day after it was emptied
4. Hagrid won't tell us what the three-headed dog was guarding even though he obviously knew something about it.
That night it took me a while to fall asleep. Astro kept having to go to the bathroom, which was part of the problem. The other half of the problem was that my mind was too busy wondering what the three-headed dog was guarding. Finally, at about three forty-five in the morning I fell into an uneasy, restless sleep.
