From the moment Pepper Pots stepped foot through the doors of Stark Industries, a feeling deep in my bones told me that there were was something about this girl. Pepper became my personal assistant, and done everything from fetching me coffee to braving to enter my room in the morning, ignoring the unconscious girls in my bed and waking me up. She dealt with everything to the best of her ability, batting off my futile attempts to flirt with her, dealing with the media, and after long, drunken nights, even proceeded to 'take out the trash' in the early hours of the mornings. After the opening of the Stark Expo and the dealings with Ivan, something serious began between the colleague and her boss. It had been two years since then and Pepper and I were still going strong, batting off any obstacles that stood in their way. I spent a lot of time away from Stark Industries, which made being together difficult, but we managed it the best of our abilities. Now that I'm moving back to Stark Towers, I'll be able to spend a lot more time with her, something that I know is going to do wonders for our relationship. I'm going home now and I am going to ask Pepper to marry me.

I had packed away my stuff into a holdall and dragged it down to the boardroom to jive Fury the heads up on my swift departure. When I arrived in the boardroom, to my surprise, I found fury reclined in a chair with his feet up on the table deep in a conversation with Maria Hill that included... Laughing? For the first time in, like, ever Fury actually looked relaxed. I guess it was time to rein in on his parade.

“Director Fury!” I yelled, startling the man in the black trench coat and he scrambled to his feet. He glared in my direction, his one good eye looking at me with a furious expression. “You know, I've always wondered why you have always hated me so much.”

“Mr Stark-” Fury started but I cut him short.

“I mean people usually hate me for my attitude, or the fact that I'm a playboy or the fact that I'm better than them or the sad realisation that I am Iron Man and their not but with you, hmm, I'm just not sure.”

“Stark-”

“Maybe it's all four of those reasons.” I teased but with a serious expression, gripping my chin in a mocking action.

“Neither-”

“Just can't handle it can you, Nick? You just gotta hate me for it. I don't blame you. I'd hate you if you were everything I wanted to be.”

“Mr Stark!” Fury was obviously seething at what I had just said to him. “I couldn't care that you're Iron Man, you're certainly not better than me and your attitude stinks. But in all honestly,” He threw his arms up, gesturing to the empty space around him, “Look at all the fucks I just don't give.” Fury sounded pissed off. But there's nothing more fun than poking the camel.

“That hurt, Nicky, I thought if you could just put aside your hatred towards me that we could be friends and have sleepovers and paint each others nails and keep each others secrets but that obviously must be too hard from you. Don't hate me because I'm pretty.” I pouted. Agent Hill had to cover her mouth to muffle her laughter but Fury just stared at me wide eyed, anger coursing through his body like a run away train. “I came to ask you if you wanted to come to salon with me but obviously not because you can't put aside our differences.” I pointed an accusing finger at him.

“What do you really want, Stark? Stop playing games because it will just result in me putting you an your ass again.” Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that but obviously Fury hadn't. I was bored one afternoon and decided to play poke the camel with him. The conversation obviously must have got onto touchy ground when I started about dressing him in something other than leather, telling him that he should get a uniform like Steve's because he would look good in spandex. It only took one swift movement of Fury's leg to knock Tony off balance and he fell. Everyone laughed. It was bad. He decided that they weren't going to go there again so he gave it up.

“Actually, I just came to tell you that I'm leaving. I'm heading back to Stark Towers to-”

“I don't want the details of your relationship with Virginia.” Fury cut in.

“I wasn't about to tell you about what you are thinking that I was.” I scoffed. “What I was going to say was that I'm going to ask her to marry me.” That shut him up. “I'll send word in a few days when you can send the rest of the team over but until then,” I kissed my fingers and blew him a kiss across the room before dragging my bag from the room to the landing deck.

I heard Fury say to Maria, “God, I hate that man,” once I was out of the room. That made me chuckle. I had never felt comfortable around Fury, he had this look about him, something that screamed “I'm going to rip your spleen out when you're sleeping.” The man gave me the creeps. Plus the eye patch made him look like a rejected pirate. I really struggled to take him seriously sometimes.
