Alyx's pov
I sat on the carpeted floor of Hannah's living room, waiting for Patrick to show up. Merritt and Hannah both sat in front of me. Hannah was playing nervously with the sleeve of her sweater, but Merritt was all smiles.
"I can't believe I finally get to meet him!" She grinned.
Today was the first Saturday of the school year, a day to be both celebrated and mourned. It was only yesterday that I met Tyler.
Hannah laughed. "Yeah, I guess so. That means you have to introduce us to Josh one of these days."
"You better." I smiled evilly to Merritt.
Mere scowled and rolled her eyes. "Fine, fine. I will. Eventually."
Hannah grinned victoriously, her smile only growing when the doorbell rang. She jumped up and ran to the door and opened it, revealing a short boy with red hair and eyes that couldn't seem to decide what color they were. He was wearing a Panic! at the Disco t-shirt and a fedora. He was one of the few people who could pull off a fedora.
Patrick shuffled into the room and smiled sheepishly. "Hey guys." He said.
Hannah and I had known Patrick for at least two years, but neither of us really talked to him or got to know him until recently when Hannah started to hangout with him. It didn't take her long to decide she liked him, and she was surprised when he told her he liked her before she ever brought it up. Since then they had been spending as much time together as possible. Mere and I were about ready to throw the boyfriend title on him.
Mere turned to me. 'He's cute!' she mouthed at me.
I grinned and nodded.
Patrick walked with Hannah to sit down close to us. There was an awkward silence for a minute before Hannah started talking to Patrick. Merritt and I sat listening, not knowing what else to do.
"You know, you're the best Patrick. I'm so glad I get to spend so much time with you." Hannah said.
"Please, you're so much better than me." Patrick smiled at her. "More beautiful, smarter, and heaven knows you're an amazing artist."
Hannah scoffed, and I had to hold back a laugh. "Nuh- uh! You're so much prettier than I am, it's not even fair! And you sing like no one's business."
I raised my eyebrow. I had never heard him sing.
"You know, I've heard you sing too." Patick said.
My eyebrows lifted higher. Hannah never sang in front of people.
"Yeah, and you just said it was good because you're the sweetest person ever."
"Can you hear yourself? I think you get that title." Patrick put his arm around Hannah's waist.
Hannah giggled.
Their conversation continued along these lines for a while longer, creating the strangest argument I had heard in my life. It was also the cutest argument I had seen in my life. I leaned over to Merritt.
"I ship it." I whispered.
"Same though." She whispered back.
After a few more minutes I felt like the most awkward third wheel in history. Seriously, I could get a world record for being the most awkward person ever. In that minute I made a split second decision that could end very badly. I hooked my arm around Merritt's and winked at her before interrupting Hannah and Patrick's argument.
"Mere and I are dating."
Tyler's pov
"She talked to me." I flopped down onto my bed, my phone pressed to my ear.
"The girl in AP Lit?" Josh asked.
"Uh huh. She talked to me! Just for a minute, and I probably screwed it up already, but she talked to me."
"What did she say?" Josh asked.
"Not much. Mostly just awkward small talk. I don't think she's extremely social." I smiled a tiny bit.
"Seems like a good fit. Did you try and save it from being awkward?"
"Yeah. I mentioned Taco Bell." I cringed.
"Sick."
There was silence for a minute and then Josh took a deep breath and started talking again.
"So I met this girl the first day of school and the only reason I didn't tell you is because I know how protective you are and I like her a lot."
Alyx's pov
Three heads swiveled in my direction.
"Finally!" Hannah grinned. "For the record, I knew you were both gayer than Gerard and Frank."
"Wait, what?" Patrick asked.
"Yeah, my twin is gay." Hannah said.
"No, I knew that, but I didn't think they were."
Before the other two noticed Merritt's surprise she scowled at me. "Alyx! I thought we weren't going to tell anyone yet!"
"I couldn't stand it anymore!" I said dramatically. "And those two straights were being disgustingly cute." I tried my best not to smile, knowing what I was about to get from Hannah.
"Hey now, I am definitely not straight." She scowled at me.
"Well your boyfriend is." Mere commented.
"Actually..." Hannah grinned.
"Come on!" Patrick said, exasperated. "I've told you time and time again, we were not dating! Pete just wasn't right in the head at the moment and kinda sorta kissed me."
"Pete Wentz kissed you?" I asked.
"But you liked it!" Hannah grinned at Patrick. He didn't respond.
"I'mma have a talk with that boy." I sighed. It was hard to believe I had dated someone so obviously gay.
"Pete kissed you too?" A voice came from down the hall.
"Mikey!?" Hannah asked her younger brother.
"Nothing!" He called. We heard a door shut and he fell silent.
"I suggest you have a talk with that one later." Merritt tilted her head.
"So if you guys are dating, do you, I don't know... wanna go on a double date with us sometime?" Patrick asked.
Mere and I both burst into laughter. Hannah and Patrick turned pink and the latter looked very confused, wondering what he had said wrong.
"So you are dating! We knew it!" I gasped between breaths.
"So you two aren't..." Patrick trailed off as Merritt and I both shook our heads vigorously. We continued laughing and eventually Hannah and Patrick joined us.
