Aveuglant unsheathed Sunfire and stepped out of the ranks and gazed out into the waters. Lord Jason unsheathed his sword and lowered the visor of his helmet. He fixed the crown onto it and readied himself for battle. It was silent for a few moments, only the sounds of breathing and beating hearts could be heard. A constant sound faded into hearing distance. As gates slowly opened and the boats approached the noise evolved into a chant.
"Blood, blood, blood, blood, blood."
The constant chant sent shivers down the spines of the men. The boats approached the shallows.
"Blood, blood, blood"
With a creak and a scuffing sound the ships were beached.
"Blood, blood, blood."
The demons jumped from the boats and sprinted to the first barricade.
Silence.
The creaking of plate armour.
The jingle of chainmail.
"CHARGE!" Boomed Golmatoth.
The screech of the demons.
The thud of blade against flesh.
The army clattered into the first barricade. Wood chips and metal splintered in the air, firing out of the fog of blood and ash. Metal clatters and yells drowned out the inhuman screeches before they pierce back to the forefront.
"Can anyone see what's happening?" Lord Jason asked over the cacophony of noise.
"The men are holding onto the first barricade but not for long. They will get overwhelmed eventually." Aveuglant stated, "Their morale is failing, they will break unless someone does something." He jumped five metres in the air, his wings unfurled out of his cloak and armour. Flying high into the air he dropped. Landing with an enormous impact he launched about twenty demons through the air. Aveuglant swung Sunfire cleaving in two demon after demon. The swords power flung fire around. These flames landed on the wooden docks and set them alight. Quickly these flames spread and an inferno engulfed the docks and the ships. Demons crawled out of the fire and charged with burning skin. Inspired by Aveuglant, the soldiers of the first barricade hopped over and join the fight.
"Should we help them?" Lord Shora asked.
"I think they're coping for now." Lord Jason responded.
Aveuglant and his reinforcements held strong under the onslaught. Sunfire gleamed and spread fire everywhere. Golmatoth ran through the fire and charged Aveuglant. Their swords clashed with sparks and they brawled to the death.
Golmatoth swung his sword at the angles head, Aveuglant quickly ducked under and stabbed the demon. Sunfire pierced cleanly through the armour like a nice through butter. Ash fell to the ground and Golmatoth took a step back and pulled out the blade. Dropping Sunfire and his sword to the ground,he ran at the angel and pushed him into the flames. Without Aveuglant's aid the soldiers began to fall one by one. The first few demons climbed over the first barricade and charged at the second.
"Follow the crown. Hold, whatever happens we can't lose this harbour." Lord Jason called out preparing for the fight.
The first wave of demons clambered up the barricade. Lord Jason swung the sword taking the head off of two and quickly turned it midair to stab another. Elsewhere all down the line axes and swords and spears felled more demons.
The last soldier was torn apart by four demons.
"The first barricade has fallen keep fighting!"
More and more demons flooded to the barricade. Jason swung taking one out then took another out. A demon scratched the plate armour and grabbed the sword out of his hand. He pulled a knife and put it through the throat. The sword clattered over the barricade and out of reach. Left with a knife the Lord fought off as well as he could. In a brief moment of peace the Lord grabbed a shortsword from a body and returned to the battle. In the fighting nobody noticed an alight demon sprint to the barricade. It tripped on a body and fell into a cart of gunpowder.
Boom!
A ball of fire and heat tore apart the barricade. Demons and men alike were hurled through the air and landed on the ground dazed. Lord Jason scrambled up and grabbed the sword amongst the rubble. His ears rang and his vision hazed. Monsters flooded through the opening, the barricade was wide open. They'd failed, the harbour would fall.
"Retreat! Back to the streets!" Lord Jason shouted. He ran through the harbour surrounded by soldiers. The wide open space narrowed as he reached the streets. Knights were waiting at the street barricades confusedly.
"The harbour has fallen. Prepare to hold the streets." Lord Jason called as he hopped the barricades and continued to the market place.
