One week later

Charlie sighed. He hated being an empath, his emotions were so overwhelming but they were nothing compared to other people emotions.

"Hey asshole."

The deep voice caught him off guard and he snapped his attention to the much larger male.

"You have one job and you can't even do that right. What the fuck is happening down there?" Johnny grumbled as he crossed his arms impatiently over his chest.

Charlie swallowed hard as he bit back tears, if he cried it would only be worse. He watched the red head cling to the taller boy, his black hair was in a perfect man bun. He was attractive that was obvious but Charlie knew he wasn't as pretty on the inside. That was one of his favorite parts about his power. People can't hide who they truly are from their own thoughts.

"She's begging him to walk her home...she's scared of us."

"Maybe she's not such a dumb bitch after all." Circe chuckled.

"He's awful..." Charlie sighed as he listen to the boy berate the poor girl.

"Of course he is, he's mortal. Idiot." Danny rolled his eyes as he watched the boy tear the girl's hands from his sleeves before taking a very large step back. He didn't need to hear their thoughts he could tell he was chastising the red head, who looked down taking his words.

"She could tear him apart with a single look, he doesn't back off and I'm gonna knock him on his ass." Dylan grumbled as he watched the girl shrink in on herself as much as she could. It reminded him of his Charlie and he had a lot of pent up rage surrounding the treatment of his snowflake baby.

The girl wrapped her arms around herself comfortingly as the boy toyed with her emotions further by pecking her lips and throwing an "I love you" over his shoulder as he walked back towards campus.

She was so scared, Charlie's heart hurt. Dylan knowing that look on Charlie's face wrapped his arm around him, pulling him into his side, before planting a gentle kiss to his temple.

"She's going to be okay." Dylan promised, but they both knew that that was a lie.

Serena looked around anxiously at the barren street. Everyday for the last week Mason had walked her home from school but he was in a mood today. His senior thesis wasn't working out the way he had wanted and he had been taking it out on everyone around him. Today she was clingy, yesterday she wasn't supportive enough. She wasn't emotionally prepared for tomorrow. Emotions were so exhausting, her mother was an empath and her wonderful mother had seen signs in her daughter.

"Oh my Rena baby. To feel so very deeply is both a blessing and a curse." She would sigh as she smoothed the girl's hair after a long day of middle school.

She whimpered slightly at the sharp pain she always felt when thinking about her mother. It had been nearly a decade since she had been gone but you'd be surprised how quickly a decade flies by. The wind whipped her hair as she shivered. Today had been a lot. She just wanted to crawl in bed and get lost in the Black oblivion that was sleep.

She walked a few blocks as the wind whipped against her back, a strong gust knocking her over. She gasped as she stopped herself. The familiar golden light surrounding her hand as she momentarily defied gravity, just to crumble back to the earth moments later.

"Damn it." She whimpered as she picked herself back up, her hand grazing her knee which was bleeding steadily. "Why am I so bad at everything." She whimpered as she wrapped her arms around herself. It was all too much, the whole day had been too much. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes as a voice sliced through the now calm air.
