We were all resting. I still was not over the fact that Gandalf is dead. Legolas came walking up with something in his hands. "A lament to Gandalf." He says.
"What do they say about him?" I hear someone ask.
"I have not the heart to tell you. For me the grief is still too near." Legolas replies. He sees me and walks over. "Hey, are you alright?" He asks.
"I just cannot believe that happened." I say, looking away.
"I cannot believe it either. But now we must rest. Do not let that cloud your mind, my love." He says, comforting me. I smile at him. I pecked his lips and he smiles back. "Let's go to sleep." I say. We lay down, and I immediately fall asleep.
The Next Day
We are sailing off right now. There are three boats. Legolas, Gimli and I in one, Aragorn, Frodo and Sam in another and Boromir, Merry and Pippin in the last. I am worried about what is to come. I just hope that nobody else will die...
We have been rowing for days. No signs of orcs anytime soon. Thank goodness. But I greatly fear more are to come. I sigh. I haven't said a lot for there's nothing to say. I don't even know how to feel. Gandalf's death still has me shaken at times.
"Are you alright?" Legolas asks me, worried. Gimli just watched and listened to us, very intrigued. Legolas is a brilliant rower. I would have just steered us in the wrong direction by mistake. I look up at him. His ocean blue eyes were filled with concern.
"I don't know anymore" I answer, emotionless. He narrows his eyes, trying to read me.
"Is it about us?" He asks, confused. I hear Gimli gasp at his question.
"Oh no, we're fine" I reassure him. He smiles at that while Gimli lets out a sigh of relief.
"Then what is it?" Legolas asks. I think for a moment, not knowing how to word my answer and sigh.
"It's just...I don't understand. Why did Gandalf have to leave like that? I'm afraid it's not fair" I say, worried about Frodo. I look over in the direction of his boat. Legolas follows my eyes.
"Don't worry. He will be alright in time" I look at him and half smile, hoping that it will come true. He gives me a kiss on the cheek and smiles at me as we continue on the river bank.
All of a sudden, Legolas gives a quick glance in a certain direction of the forest to the side of us. I analyze his face. He looked skeptical or rather trying to see something closer as he narrowed his eyes.
"Is everything okay?" I ask him, concerned. He looks all around, once more.
"Orcs" He answers, simply. "There are more to come" Just as I feared.
We soon come across beautiful mountain-like scenery. Various statues of old kings of Gondor, is what Legolas told me. They stood tall with such pride. I admired them so and and smiled as I looked around in awe. We finally reached a small shore right near the forest, gathering our things as we get out.
Moments Later
We got a fire going and everyone is relaxing. "We cross the lake at nightfall" Aragorn began. "Hide the boats and continue on foot. We approach Mordor from the North"
"Oh yes?" Gimli snapped. I just giggled at his attitude. "Just a simple matter of finding our way through Emyn Muil! An impassible labyrinth of razor-sharp rocks. And after that, it gets even better! Festering, stinking marshland as far as the eye can see" I notice Legolas is staring into the forest with a frightened expression. I'm worried for him now.
"That is our road" Aragorn replies to Gimli. "I suggest you take some rest and recover your strength, Master Dwarf"
"Recover my-!" Gimli yells, taken terribly off guard. I chuckle under my breath. Legolas then walks right over to Aragorn with a concerned expression. I follow him. If there is something wrong, I want to know!
"We should leave now" Legolas urges him.
"No. Orcs patrol the eastern shore. We must wait for cover of darkness" Aragorn argues. Legolas turns to the forest.
"It is not the eastern shore that worries me" He explains. "A shadow and a threat has been growing in my mind. Something draws near. I can feel it" I get scared. He then turns back to Aragorn.
"Recover strength? Pay no heed to that, young hobbit" Gimli huffs to Merry.
"Where's Frodo?" Merry asks, I turn to him and look around. He's right! Frodo is missing!
I sigh, looking everywhere. Sam, Merry and Pippin were helping me. "Well, how in the world could we have missed this!? He could be anywhere now!" I boast, both shocked and frightened for Frodo's fate.
"We must leave now!" Legolas belted. "It is not safe here"
"Not without Frodo!" I roar back. Legolas hurries over to me grabbing my arm and pulling me back from the bush I was looking in. "Let go of me!" I try to pry my way out of his grip but he just spins me around to meet his face.
"I'm afraid it's too late" He says, looking down. I look at his face in disgust. It can't be!
"Don't you dare say that!" I yell at him frantically. "He's out there somewhere in those woods probably scared half to death!"
"If you go out there, we might lose you, too. And that's not happening" Legolas responds, irritated. We start a boiled argument about me wanting to find Frodo and him wanting to protect me. I soon hear Boromir sigh.
"I'll go find him" He says as he brushes past the both of us, breaking up our argument.
"Boromir!" Aragorn calls after him. But it's too late. He's already gone. It's like now I can physically feel the Fellowship slowly dying. Legolas sighs.
"Let him go" He says.
Moments Later
The rest of us are all just waiting around for Boromir to come back with Frodo. Much to my disappointment, they never show. I eye Legolas who is carefully pacing back and forth.
"Alright" Aragorn sighs. "I'll go see if I can find them"
"Not you, too!" I yell. "I can't take one more person leaving and not coming back!"
"He will be fine" Legolas says, blankly. I turn to him in disgust.
"How could you say that!?" I boast, concerned. "How could you not care!? Especially since he's your best friend!"
"And so I know him" Legolas responds. "He is a brilliant ranger. He can take care of himself" He reassures me. I sigh, watching Aragorn disappear into the forest.
