Julia groaned as she looked at her timetable.
"What's up?" Cade asked, arching an eyebrow.
Julia squeezed her eyes shut and said, "We have PE now. In gym 3, ugh."
Cade laughed, a genuine laugh that sounded new to Julia.
She folded her arms across her chest, not impressed or amused. "What's so funny?" She grumbled.
Cade's laughter died off slowly and he sighed a happy sigh. "It's just that you get upset over such petty little things and it's funny watching you fume."
Julia rolled her eyes, finally giving in and grinning. "Well then, let's hurry up and get this period done with."
"No matter how fast you do PE, the period is still the same amount of time, so-"
"Shut up Cade," Julia interrupted playfully with a shake of her head.
They walked quickly to gym 3, not wanting to be late and split up into the different changing rooms. Julia dumped her bag in one of the lockers and took out her PE gear. She sighed as she put it on, very aware that some of the girls that were still getting changed stared at her. After she got changed, she locked up the locker with her bag in it and walked to the door. Right next to the door was a mirror, so Julia couldn't help but stare at her own image.
She had changed. Her chestnut brown hair looked soft and bouncy, full of volume, instead of being unruly and dead like usual. Her face looked less babyish and more like the face of a delicate china doll. Her eyes also seemed bigger and the shade of blue-green had turned slightly more unnatural, more turquoise actually. Her body shape also changed a bit. Instead of being a short childish looking girl in high school, she looked more mature. Legs longer and ever so slightly skinnier. Her waist also seemed slimmer and it made her hips and chest seem to curve out more than it was before. She also seemed taller somehow. At the thought of actually being pretty, her cheeks grew warm, but it looked like she was wearing blush from her reflection. Her lips also seemed to look softer and more plush. She jokingly tried a pout and had to smother a giggle from rising up because it seemed so ridiculous for herself out of all the girls to actually look like a model.
She walked out of the changing room and flung open the doors to the gym. She knew immediately that something had changed. At her entrance, all the guys started whispering to each other, their eyes widened a little. The girls were just as chatty as normal, except today they all seemed to be out of it. Most of them were staring at Cade, and a few others were staring at Julia. Julia followed the girls' gazes and saw Cade leaning against the wall casually, arms folded across his chest. He was wearing a white short sleeved top and gym shorts that went half way down his thighs. He wasn't the big, broad, rugby player type with buff muscles, but he had lean muscles stretched all over his body. As the shirt was white, it was slightly transparent. She could see the muscles on his stomach. The muscles on his legs were tense as he applied pressure onto them. His sandy brown hair looked like it was tousled around by the wind. Little streaks of creamy blonde were visible, darting around his head as he turned his head around, inspecting the gym. As he saw her, his beautiful grey eyes lit up. They were so bright they could've been mistaken as silver. Around his pupil was a ring of violet and the dark blue veins that ran through his iris looked like lightning bolts striking across the bright night sky.
"There you are," he said easily, strolling over to her.
His movement caught the attention of the girls and they all started to whisper excitedly, eyes darting back and forth from their friends to Cade. But as soon as they saw that he was walking to her, the chatter quietened slightly.
"I don't think the girls like me very much, now that I've stolen your attention from them." Julia said, looking at the polished gym floor.
Cade shook his head, smiling, "Oh please, like I would care about them at all. Why would I even give a dam?"
"Did you just say "dam"?" Julia questioned, trying hard not to laugh.
Cade wore an expression of mock shock, "Yeah, why can't I? I'm in the fandom after all,"
Julia looked up, slightly impressed, "So who are you blessed by?"
"Son of Zeus, descendent of Ares, blessed by Aphrodite and Demeter," he said, at first proud, but when he said the last two names, he sounded a bit disappointed. "I'm not as popular as you. The gods probably didn't even fight for me. They most likely just looked at me and said "Eh," and blessed me."
Julia felt a wave of sympathy roll over her. "I'm sure they didn't say that." She looked determined. "Plus, can't you charmspeak people into doing things if you're blessed by Aphrodite? And your father is Zeus, that's pretty impressive. And also to have the god of war on your side, you're pretty much unbeatable!" She exclaimed, arms spread apart in a wide gesture.
"Yeah but your father is Poseidon. You get to control the water, breathe under water, communicate with equestrian animals, summon earthquakes. Also being a descendent of Athena makes you insanely clever and amazing at battle strategies. You got blessed by Hephaestus, meaning you can summon fire whenever you want, also be immune to fire and incredibly gifted at constructing. By being blessed by Hecate means you get to use the mist and bend it at your will. You were also blessed by Zeus and Hades, officially making you the most powerful person in the Percy Jackson fandom as no one has ever been blessed by all of the big three. Not only that, but you were also blessed by Apollo, making you a fantastic archer, great poet, able to see the future sometimes and amazing at medical things." He looked down. "You don't know how many people out there are jealous of you and would do and give anything for your powers."
He almost seemed small in that moment. No one has ever said those things to Julia before, and now when Cade out of all the people does, she felt incredibly hollow and a deep throbbing ache thrashed around in the depth of her heart. She felt sorry for the boy. She really did, but she wasn't exactly the person you would go to for comfort or sympathy. She struggled with her words, unable to use her tongue. She wracked her brains for something to say that would lighten Cade's mood, but she was so lost in his pit of sadness that she could not help but fall with him into a dark abyss.
