Angel

Chapter 39- E.J.

We follow Uriel to his assignment. An elderly man lays in his bed, with his elderly wife sitting next to him, holding his hand.

 "They cannot see or hear us." Uriel says. I nod.

 "My dear, my time here is over. I love you and will see you again in heaven. " the old man coughs and takes his last breath. I see his soul rise from his body and stand next to Uriel. The old woman lays her head on his chest and weeps. Uriel places his hand on the old man's shoulder and chants something is an ancient language, then says "Go with God." and the man's soul disappears.

We turn to leave, "Ok, now what?" I ask the three Angels. Gabe smiles.

 "Now we go home and wait" I growl, I hate waiting. Gabe laughs at me as we fly back to the pack house. When we land, Hawk is outside waiting for me and I run into his arms. He picks me up and swings me around, kissing me deeply.

 "I missed you, E.J." he whispers against my lips. 

"I missed you too, Hawk." He then notices that we have brought company. 

"This is Uriel and Raphael, they are ARC Angels and Gabe's brothers." I introduce them and they shake Hawks hand. Then Kyle, Levi, Frank, and Brian come outside and I introduce Frank and Brian.

 "Oh, great, she has a demon and Satan himself with her." Raphael grumbles

. "Hey, be nice, Grumpy pants, That's my uncle and Grandfather, you know. " He seemed surprised, but it's Uriel who speaks.

"You really are special, aren't you?" he smiles at me.

 Gabe nods, "Of course she is, what did you think, she was half human. That would make her a guardian, not the Prophecy. Dumb ass." I can't help but laugh. 

Kyle puffs out his chest, "Yeah, she is the direct descendant of Lucifer, God's Favorite Angel and The first line of ARC Angels, so she isn't just special, she is bad ass!"

I shake my head, "Look, fellas, this isn't a pissing contest. We are here to save the world, heaven and keep the gates of hell locked tight. Now, I have yet to find out what my second task is, and I would love to get it over with so that I can knock out the third one and beat Dennis and send him to his reserved suite in hell." Uriel, Gabe and Raphael nod.

 "I agree" Raphael speaks up,"We need to do this, that kind of evil would destroy us all." He looks at me, blue eyes blazing, "Are you sure you can defeat him?"

 I stare right back, "I have no choice."

 His eyes narrow, "How do I know you are strong enough, humans are babied by their parents, grown to be weak and dependent. I know you are not human but you have been raised with them."

 Uriel nods, "I hate to agree with him, but I have seen this as well."

 I nod and looks at Levi. "Show, them, my dear. You have nothing to be ashamed of." I place a hand on each of their foreheads and show them everything from my first memory forward. Uriel falls to his knees and Raphael goes down on one knee, the pain of my childhood is horrible, even for them. Uriel looks up at me with tears rolling down his face.

 "Yet, you never tried to end it. I have seen humans end their lives for much less. You are a brave, strong woman. I have faith in you, E.J."

 I wipe his tears away, "Don't cry for me, it is in the past and it has made me who I am now." I smile at him and then I am wrapped in the arms of Raphael.

 "I am sorry." is all he said before releasing me and flying away. I looked at a shocked Uriel

 "Don't worry, he will be back, he just hates to show emotion." I nod and we all go inside for food and rest, I have a bad feeling that tomorrow will be a long day.
