Uriel's POV
We have decided to stay in Texas for a little while. The air is good and there is a lot of land for Hawk's bear to run and E.J. to train with the Katana. She doesn't really need it, she is very good, but she says you can always improve, so Gabe, Kyle and I train with her and Hawk everyday. E.J. intrigues me. How one person can live through so much pain and darkness and still come out good, is a mystery to me. Being half demon, I thought that the darkness would take her, but she fights hard against it. I am proud of her. Gabe and Raphael are too, even though Raphael won't admit it. He is a big pain in my ass sometimes.
We had just taken a break from an afternoon training session when Raphael came in to the kitchen where we were eating lunch.
"When you are finished, perhaps you would like some real competition? Maybe you would like to spar with the sword master?" Raphael asks E.J. She cocks her head to the side.
"Sword master, huh? Alright then, let's do this, sword master." She smiles at him and he nods. We all follow them outside, this should be a hell of a show. Raphael isn't joking about that, he has trained with the best swordsmen for centuries. I almost feel sorry for E.J., but then again, she may just hold her own.
They face each other and bow. Then the fight is on. Their sword clash over and over. They move like they are dancing, graceful and quick. Every move is carefully planed, carefully executed. We are all on the edge of our seats, so to speak, wondering how this will play out. Ralph swipes at her head, she ducks and kicks him in the gut, hard. He doubles over, she goes for his head, but blocks it and punches her hard in the face, she flies backwards and hits the ground. He goes fro a strike but she rolls out of the way and flips up to her feet. Their sword clash again, over and over. They are hitting each other with fists and feet. They're both bleeding , but they don't stop. Finally, Ralph knock E.J.'s sword from her hands, but she roundhouse kicks him in the face and dives for her sword.
He goes for a strike, but she blocks him. Back on her feet, sword in hand, she attacks and this time Ralph's sword hits the ground, with her blade at his neck.
" Game Over, sword master." I chuckle. E.J. lowers her sword and they bow.
" I am impressed, Little one. You fight well." He says, throwing and arm around her shoulders. I huff, he better be, that girl works harder than anyone I have ever seen.
Raphael' POV
I have never met anyone quite like E.J., she is a puzzle I need to figure out. Half demon and half angel, both high ranking. That should have never happened. Although, I can't argue with the end result, I just wouldn't trust a whole army of them. She bested me today, that never happens. I am extremely proud of her, she has a grace and passion that is unheard of. I have seen her past and that is a horrible life she has lived and as a child, I shudder to think.
I am glad she has her Bear, he makes her happy and she deserves that more than anyone on earth. I am sad to think she has to live forever and never have the chance to be a mother. That is something she would be great at. I have seen over the last few months with the children we have rescued. The way she offers them comfort is like watching The Father with his children. I feel she is the best of us.
"What has you thinking so hard, brother?" Uriel asks, sitting next to me on the porch.
"E.J." I say and he nods.
"She is something else." I sigh,.
"I agree, when she showed me her past, it broke my heart. I almost lost all faith in humanity. Then seeing all this over the past few months, it was hanging by a thread. I watched her time and time again, walk into her own person hell and grab those children out. She offers them comfort and safety, like Our Father." I look at him and he meets my eyes, "I hope we can help put an end to this, Brother. She deserves closure and a break."
He smiles, "She deserves that and so much more, brother." I couldn't agree more.
Kyle's POV
"We have found it!" Grant yells and runs outside where E.J. and Uriel are training. I am right behind him, I want this to be over so I can relax and spend some time doing something fun and so that maybe E.J. can breathe again. She jogs over to us.
"What did you find?" Grant grins.
"He is in Gary, Indiana. There is a cluster of warehouses, he is in those. I am not sure which on exactly but all signs point to it. We should check it out." E.J.'s grin gives me chills.
"It's the beginning of the end." We make arrangements to fly back to Indiana. Where it began, is where it will end. I just hope that it ends in our favor. If not, nothing will save us. It's all up to E.J., no pressure.
