Crossfire

Chapter 9

    "Hello?" I answer.

    "Where are you?" Elijah asks.

    "You don't need to know." I say just to annoy him.

    "You don't understand-"

    "Oh, I understand perfectly. You're trying to control my life and I'm not in the mood for that right now. Leave me alone!" I scream into the phone, hanging up immediately. Okay, so I feel bad about yelling at him so I'm going to go apologize. Damn pregnancy hormones! If I'm not wrong, Elijah and Rebekah should be in the swamp dealing with the vampires.

    What do you know, I was right.

    "What are you doing here?" Elijah asks, pulling me aside before anyone can see me.

    "When you called me earlier, I was already mad and I took my anger out on you. I'm so sorry." I tell him, tears cascading down my cheeks. His expression softens when he sees my tears, I'll keep that noted.

    "It's quite alright, Amanda. I know your under a lot of stress right now." He says softly, pulling me into a tight hug. I hug back but only for a second because I then remembered the idea I had earlier.

    "Get home as soon as you can, all of you." I tell him as I walk back to the house.

    Ariana is packing my bag and hers, while I wait for the others to arrive.

    "What is the meaning of this?" Klaus asks walking over to an armchair.

    "Before the others arrive, I have something to tell you." I say quickly.

    "Well, what is it, love?" He asks impatiently.

    "It's recently been confirmed, I'm having twins." I say, slowly. I just sit there waiting for his reaction. He stays emotionless for a few seconds, thinking.

    "What are the genders?" He asks.

    "A girl and a boy." I say happily. He has a genuine smile on his face but it drops as soon as Rebekah and Elijah walk in.

    "What's the purpose of this meeting you've called, Amanda?" Rebekah asks.

    "Aside from me finding out that I will soon have a son and a daughter, I haven't a slightest clue." Klaus finally speaks up.

    "It's one of each?" Rebekah asks. I nod and she smiles happily.

    "That doesn't answer the question we all want the answer to." Elijah says. Before I can respond, Ariana walks downstairs with two suitcases levitating behind her.

    "Why does she have your suitcase packed? What's going on?" Klaus asks, suddenly aware of the situation.

    "I'm leaving." I say, bluntly. All three of them jolt up when they hear this.

    "You're what?!" Klaus asks, fear crossing his face for a split second.

    "You can't leave." Elijah states.

    "What about the children?" Rebekah asks.

    "I don't think you guys understand. Ari and I are leaving for a little while because all of this stress isn't good for the babies." I explain. Elijah relaxes but the other two don't.

    "You have to keep in touch." Klaus says, surprisingly calm.

    "Deal." I agree.

    "So, where are we heading?" Ariana asks as the guys put our bags in her car.

    "I have a few places in mind." I say, shrugging. She nods and gets in the car and I go to get in but my arm is grabbed lightly. Klaus pulls me to the side.

    "Stay safe, please." He says, almost desperately.

    "Do you want me to make up a safe word for if I run into trouble?" I ask, laughing but I stop when I see that he's not laughing.

    "Sure."

    "Pineapple. We're going to Hawaii, so the code word is pineapple." I say, highly amused.

    "Sounds good." He says, quietly.

    "Do you like Cami?" I blurt out.

    "No, I have my eyes set on someone else. Why?" He asks, smirking.

    "No, reason. Oh, by the way, can you get Elijah to keep his distance a little? I think he's got a crush on me. I hate to be a jerk because he's done so much for me, but I don't like him like that." I ask, nervously.

    "Of course, love." He says. I don't know what I was thinking for me to do what I did or if I was thinking at all. I kissed him quickly, on the lips, before running back to the car.

    "Where were we planning on going?" Ariana repeats.

    "I figured we could go to Central City." I tell them. She sighs but doesn't argue.

    "Let's go." She says, speeding up the car. I take a nap the rest of the way there.
