Ivory Keys

I spent the next day wandering around the large house that was now my home. Old family pictures lined the halls, pictures of Alastor's ancestors. I let my feet take me where they would, until I came across a bright room with tall windows and a grand piano. Timidly, I entered the sunlit room and peered around.

It was quiet and tranquil, without a soul around. I padded over to the piano and sat down at the long ornate bench. Gently, I reached out until my fingertips brushed the ivory keys. I had not touched an instrument since I was a little girl. I didn't even know if I could still play.

Turning to face the keys, I took a deep breath and my fingers moved across the keys then started to sing,

"You fascinated me

Cloaked in shadows and secrecy

The beauty of a broken angelI ventured carefully
Afraid of what you thought I'd be
But pretty soon I was entangledYou take me by the hand
I question who I amTeach me how to fight
I'll show you how to win
You're my mortal flaw
And I'm your fatal sin
Let me feel the sting
The pain
The burn
Under my skinPut me to the test
I'll prove that I'm strong
Won't let myself believe
That what we feel is wrong
I finally see what
You knew was inside me
All alongThat behind this soft exterior
Lies a warrior"

"Absolutely beautiful." Alastor's voice said from behind me. I whirled around to find the demon standing in the doorway watching me. My gaze shot back to my hands, now in my lap.

"I'm sorry, I should have asked before poking around..."I apologized, blushing.

"Not at all, my dear," Alastor grinned, coming into the room and sitting down beside me, "This is your home now too." I returned his smile. Tentatively, as if I were made of glass, he reached out and took my hand. I intertwined my fingers with his.

We sat there for what seemed like eternity, hand in hand, watching the world outside and enjoying the company of each other.
