Each day, Alastor and I became more familiar with each other. We both appreciated music, books, and the arts. And even though we grew more friendly, he kept true to his word and let me determine the pace of our relationship. Besides holding my hand, he had not made any sort of move on me.
One rainy morning a week after Alastor had swept me away from my parents and the god awful wedding they were trying to force me to go through, we were in the library curled up before a toasty fire. I had found a copy of Pride and Prejudice on a top shelf was reading it out loud, leaning against Alastor.
"When Jane and Elizabeth were alone, the former, who had been cautious in her praise of Mr. Bingley before, expressed to her sister just how very much she admired him.
"He is just what a young man ought to be," said she, "sensible, good-humoured, lively; and I never saw such happy manners!—so much ease, with such perfect good breeding!"
"He is also handsome," replied Elizabeth, "which a young man ought likewise to be, if he possibly can. His character is thereby complete."
"I was very much flattered by his asking me to dance a second time. I did not expect such a compliment.""
I stopped reading and glanced up at Alastor. He was smiling softly, eyes closed and head tilted back. Slowly, I reached up and poked his nose. His red eyes opened and met my own (E/C) ones. I giggled softly, closing the book.
"You know," He said quietly, "It is very hard to enjoy a beautiful girl reading to me when she insists on poking me in the nose." I laughed, closing the book.
"Well don't act like you're asleep." I replied, turning to face him as I set Pride and Prejudice off to the side. My response made him chuckle.
"Do you know that you're not very scary for a demon?" I mused.
"Maybe not to you, but there are others who find me down right horrific." He answered, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"I don't find you horrific at all." I said quietly, looking up into his crimson gaze. Then slowly, I leaned up and very gently pressed my lips to his. I felt his arms wrap themselves around my waist, pulling me close to him. My own arms wrapped around his neck, my body pressed against his. His tongue ran across my bottom lip and he deepened the kiss. I felt myself spinning away in the sensation.
Too soon, he slowly pulled back, brushing a lock of hair out of my face. I stared up at him, wide eyed and wishing he would kiss me again.
"Wife," Alastor murmured, "How lucky I feel to have been summoned by you."
