"Alastor!" I called out, skidding to a halt at the foot of the stairs. The radio demon appeared at sound of his name, peering over the banister as he straightened his tie.
"Yes, wife?" He smiled his Cheshire cat smile at me.
"My parents found out where we live." I held up the letter, "They're coming here tomorrow."
Alastor walked down the stairs as if I had not just dropped the worst news I could possibly have though of and took the letter from my hand. His red gaze scanned the brief note before crumpling it.
"As much as I despise uninvited, pompous guests, they are family." He said with disdain, tossing it into a nearby waste bin. I stared at him with my mouth hanging open. How could he act so calm about this? Seeing my reaction, he carefully took my face in his hands and kissed me softly.
"I won't let them hurt you, (Y/N)," He murmured against my lips, "You have my word on that." I nodded wordlessly, comforted by his words. Surely my parents would behave in the presence of a demon?
"Try to relax today." Alastor said, peering into my worried face, "It'll all be..." But an impatient knock at the door interrupted him. We both peered at the door, stunned into silence.
"Fuck..." Alastor swore, "They're early."
"They like to throw people off." I said, knowing all of my parents' tricks. I knotted my fingers together with his, clinging to the comfort he brought.
"Go get dressed," He kissed my forehead, "I'll answer the door." Nodding, I scampered up the stairs to my bedroom where all my clothes still were and peered around the corner, hidden but still able to see everything going on downstairs.
"Well hello," Alastor answered the door, "We were just reading the lovely letter you sent. How was the drive?" My father shouldered his way past Alastor with my mother in tow. The pair of them scanned the room, obviously looking for me.
"Where is (Y/N)?" My father demanded in his booming voice.
"Now, now," Alastor's voice purred, a dangerous note in his voice, "(Y/N) is just upstairs making herself presentable. May I offer you some tea while we wait?" With a huff of indignation, my parents followed my demon husband into the parlor.
A few minutes later, I joined my parents and Alastor dressed in a red skirt and black lace top (pictured below). Summoning all my courage, I entered the parlor with my head held high. My mother's pinched face puckered like she had just eaten a lemon and my father stood to his feet and pointed a finger at me.
"Do you have any idea..." He started in a loud boom, but Alastor's still dangerously calm voice cut in.
"Please keep in mind that (Y/N) is the mistress of this house," He said, "And you will treat her with the respect she deserves." I swear my father turned about five shades of red, but shut his mouth and sat back down.
Oh, what fun this was going to be.
