My foot trips over another branch and I face plant onto the ground. I whimper and quickly get back up to continue running before it gets me. The icy cold wind slaps against my already frozen cheeks and the useless hope in my chest diminishes the more I sprint for my life. Their footsteps grow louder and closer. The hope is completely gone. I stop running and turn around to face my attacker. It's me.
A scream rips out of my dry throat just as my eyes fly open and my body sits up. My screaming gets cut off by my throat coughing from the soreness. A body shifts from next to me and sits up while rubbing their eyes. A long, hoarse yawn escapes their mouth. They lean towards me and their hands cup my face. Their cerulean blue eye stares deeply into my green ones whilst their mouth dips into a frown.
"It's okay. It was only a dream. Relax." His gentle voice caresses my ears.
"You still haven't told me what hours are." I remind him of what I repeatedly asked him about since dinner.
"It's nothing you need to worry about." Corey reassures me with a look.
"I'm going with you to do it too."
"No, you're not. It's too dangerous for someone who got stabbed, punched and thrown to the ground." I open my to argue, but he moves one of his hands over my mouth to stop me and continues talking. "You also had to get stitches for the stab wound and head wound. And you have a mild concussion. You've stopped hurting because the food you ate in the dungeons had painkillers and other drugs in them and they finally kicked in."
"Other drugs?" I feel my eyebrows raise up to my forehead to show my alarm.
"Yeah, but trust me when I say you needed them." His eye travels off to the side to avoid my still curious gaze.
"I trust you," I sigh but still have this bad feeling about him leaving me. "Wait, but I thought you didn't know that I was in the dungeons. How do you know the food I ate had drugs in them?"
"I told them to put them in there. I expected you to be in my room when you ate, but as soon as I was done getting my cuts and bruises cleaned up, I immediately fell back asleep."
"Okay, but I won't be able to go back to sleep. Once I wake up, I stay awake. Can we get a snack? I didn't have any dinner and food sounds great right now." Right on cue, my stomach let's out a giant growl.
"Food?" Aurum mumbles on my other side and sits up with a sleepy face. "Did someone say food?"
"No." Corey looks over at him and smiles.
"Okay." Aurum falls back onto the bed and goes right back to sleep.
I giggle and watch as his peaceful face lets out a loud snore. My giggles turn into laughter and my hand comes up to my mouth to try and stifle it to not wake him. He starts mumbling about waffles and bacon and an idea pops into my head. I can make waffles and bacon for everyone. It's the least I could do.
"What time is it?" I ask Corey and he drops his hand off of my face to move his body right in front of mine to reach over and grab his phone from on top of his dresser. I blush at the closeness and my teeth bite down on my bottom lip to display my nervousness.
"It's four-thirty seven. Exactly one hour and twenty three minutes until we have to do hours." He sighs and runs his tan hand through his sun kissed blond hair. Uh! Why does he have to be so hot? Inside and outside.
"How long are hours?" I need to know how long I have to find the kitchen, then the ingredients, and learn how to make everything.
"It depends on what we did. But since it's because of my attitude," he rolls his good eye and scoffs at the word, "it's most likely going to be like two hours. He hates attitude, especially when it's directed towards him."
