Chapter 1: Part 1: Origins
The Daedalus HQ-Somewhere over Europe
"What the fuck smells like a dog got sprayed by a skunk, and then decided to go for a swim in a sewer? JOSH!" Jordan joked ignorantly.
Josh stopped in his tracks the moment he heard this joke, bending down to take a sai from his boot and grab the blade in his hand. Josh threw the blade directly at Jordan. It cut through the wind, like a knife cuts through butter. It pierced his vest-jacket and pinned him to the nearby wall. Josh sprinted to his position while pulling the other sai from his opposite boot and one of his dual wielding semi-automatic pistols from its gun holster on his thigh.
He held his pistol to Jordan's forehead and the tip of the sai to his neck. "I swear to god Jordan, if you make any other sly comments about me and my missions, I will personally blow your brains out and separate your head from your neck. Got it?" Josh looked deeply into his eyes. A smile cracked onto both of their faces and they began to laugh.
Jordan pulled the knife from the wall as he spoke, "You really had me going there Josh," Jordan laughed.
"Who said I was joking," Josh immediately stopped laughing to pull a serious face as he sheathed his pistol and sai.
Jordan handed josh the other sai and Josh sheathed it into his other boot
"Hey the boss wanted to see you and she did not sound happy," Jordan explained with weariness in his voice.
"Ok" Josh said plainly.
Josh's P.O.V
"Hey boss," I said after entering and sitting in a chair in Selene's office. I placed my feet on her desk and crossed them over.
"Get your feet off of my desk right now," Selene scoffed.
I couldn't help but notice her black hair that didn't go any further than the top of her shoulder blades. It always looked professionally done, but at the same time, like she didn't care the way it looked. She twisted on her heels at the sound of my feet sliding off of her desk. Her bright yellow eyes flared up as she stared angrily at my icy blue ones. Her mouth twitched, like she needed to say something, but didn't.
I pulled the sai from my boot, stood and turned. I looked at the dart board for the thousandth time in my life. I threw the blade, it landed where it does every time, in the bulls-eye.
"You left evidence," Selene finally choked out.
I took the bow from my hip, pressed a few buttons on the grip and placed it back in its holster, "Not anymore," I said plainly with a smirk on my face.
"That is not the point," Selene yelled, "what is rule number one?"
"Don't tell anyone about the Fraternity or die?" I asked in a jokingly manor, knowing that was the answer and that she was wrong. The look on her face when she discovered that what I said was true was priceless.
"Yes," Selene's voice cracked as she stuttered, "but what is rule number two?"
"Don't leave evidence," I said.
"So why do we give you titanium alloy arrows if you are going to leave evidence. The feathers are made of a flammable plastic and the tip and mid-section are the lightest titanium alloy tech could find, SO WHY THE FUCK DO YOU LEAVE EVIDENCE AT A CRIME SCENE IF YOUR ARROWS CAN MELT DOWN AND LEAVE NOTHING WHEN THEY BURN?!" Slene yelled as her voice increased in volume.
"Look I smell like a sewer, and I have lived for over a 800 years, so don't give me the FUCKING speech over leaving FUCKING evidence," I yelled at her, purposely emphasising the FUCKS. She looked shocked, and not her usual shocked, like she just had someone stab her in the gut shocked.
"GET OUT!" Selene yelled.
"It would be my pleasure," I replied as I left the room, pulling my blade from the dart board on my way out.
Location: Josh's Apartment-Miami
"I love Selene but sometimes she can act so superior, but she only got her job because of her dad. A man who I haven't even met. I find that odd, I have never met Selene's family," I thought to myself.
I undressed, leaving my weapons in my weapons rack in my cupboard, leaving various pieces of clothing in a trail from my apartment door through to the bathroom. I ran the hot water first, making the room steam with water vapour. After the room was covered in steam, I ran the cold. I preferred hot showers.
I stepped under, letting the hot waters wash away the smell of the sewer, and the dirtiness of my fight with Selene.
<I have lived for 800 years, but over the past hundreds of years I still remember how I joined the Fraternity>
1812-London
They lined us up like animal. We all had tattoos on our right shoulder blade. It looked like an f with two flicks on the back of the tail. It meant "GODSEND" my father told me. He learnt what it meant on his first trip to Japan. These soldiers called us assassins, what does that even mean? I turned around to look at them. One of the soldiers spotted me and pulled his sword from its hilt and swung the pummel at my head.
It hurt. Like a hammer hitting wood. All that could be heard was a cracking sound, which, at the time, I assumed was my skull as my head hurt like crazy.
My father turned and looked at the soldier, "NO, PLEASE HE IS JUST A BOY. HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE SYMBOL MEANS," my father said to the soldier.
"Get back in line, put your hands on the back of your head and face the wall," the soldier explained.
My father helped me up and we both faced the wall with our hands on our heads. The soldiers walked down the line, taking their swords and plunging them into our heads. I was last in line, so before I died, I would have to watch my father die.
It was his turn; tears began to well in my eyes. They slashed across his head, then his neck and finally his back. All the blood that fell from their swords and splashed from the cuts covered my left side.
I felt a great pain in my shoulder suddenly, like they lit my on fire at that point. I felt my eyes burn as well. I looked at the nearest soldier. He stared as if scared whimpering as he began to run and scream. I blacked out.
When I awoke, I was crouched over the top of the screaming soldier. I looked towards my hands and saw that my entire body was completely covered in blood. I screamed.
< I could never forget that moment, the moment I became the assassin>
Thanks for the help Talisha.
