Ferinix the Night Fury

Chapter 6

After a few days of sleeping and chatting to Gezzor, I awoke to men shouting at me and poking me with their sticks and other tools and eventually got me into another cage and rolled me out to the hunter's home port.

I felt the suns warm rays against my scales. I saw countless hunters and an infinite amount of caged dragons all perfectly lined up. I felt bad for them. I wanted to get everyone out to safety. But I couldn't. They had taken my muzzle off but I just can't destroy the dragon-proof bars that were between my freedom and me. No matter how many times I blasted the bars they never gave way.

After a while of being pushed though the hunter's homeland, I saw one hunter that had a large sword and seemed to be the alpha of the hunters due to the way he stood with dignity and the way I felt the other hunter's submission trickle to me. In reaction to this I looked up at the alpha and narrowed my eyes and bared my teeth.

"What kind of dragon is that?" The strange hunter murmured.

"We do not know boss. No one knows," said one of the hunters pushing my cage.

"What can it do? "Asked the leader.

"It and its mother are black and have strong purple fire," Another hunter said.

"Oh it's a baby. Put it in the nursery." commanded the leader.

They turned me around and went to an area with screeching baby dragons and incubating eggs.

Once we arrived the cage door swung open and I was stuffed into a cage that was more like a small cave full with bars on the entrance of adolescent Sand Wraiths. As the cage door slammed shut I heard a small, clear voice say "Hello". And another voice say, "What kind of Sand Wraith are you?"

I responded with "Hello and I am not a Sand Wraith I am a Night Fury" I puffed out my chest a bit to show that Night Furies are a powerful species.

"Well I'm Sevi," said an adorable light blue Sand Wraith with grass green eyes.

"And I'm Cavy," announced the smallest one of the trio. She was a smooth orange with bright yellow eyes.

"I'm Ursai," mentioned the only male of the group with brownish-grey scales and deep blue eyes like a pair of pools looking up at me.

"Hello Sevi, Cavy and Ursai I am Ferinix" I said lowering my head down a bit to their level.

"Hi Ferinix" said Sevi in an energetic voice.

I smiled and asked, "How long have you been here?"

Cavy replied with, "We've always been here since the day we hatched".

"So you've never been out of this cage?" I asked tilting my head.

"Never" muttered Ursai and shook his head side-to-side.

"Ever" Sevi chimed in.

"Do you guys know how to hunt?" I questioned with a bit more curiosity.

"No, can you teach us?" asked Cavy with a cute tone in her voice while jumping up and down.

"Please Ferinix," begged Ursai and Sevi.

"Sorry but no" I said.

"Why not?" asked Sevi.

I answered with, "Because there's not much room and there's nothing to hunt"

"How about that cave moth behind you?" Implied Ursai.

"Okay, watch me" I instructed and trotted to the moth and pounced on it.

I lifted my paw a bit and peered in to see if I got it. I saw nothing so I spun my head around looking for my prey. I saw a flicker of movement out of the corner of my eye and ran after it. I pounced a few times and didn't get it until it decided to take a rest on the stonewall. Then I stealthily sneaked towards it and snatched up the moth and held it dangling from my paw.

"Can I try?" asked Ursai full of energy.

"Me too!" yelled Sevi.

"Hey, how about me?" Complained Cavy.

Then I said "You can all try to get it as a team".

"Okay now let it go," demanded Cavy.

I dropped the moth and the moment it hit the floor it flapped its wings and took to the air. It was wobbling some but it was still flying. The three Sand Wraiths and dashed after it. Ursai was too eager to catch his victim and pounced too early and face planted into the ground about one and a half feet away from the moth. Sevi and Cavy were still running and chased it around in circles.

After only a small amount of time Cavy stopped and sat down. She didn't look very tired. However Sevi was still on the chase. After a few minutes the little Sand Wraith got exhausted and gave up the chase. The moth was tired too and landed on the thick bars on the entrance to the tiny cave. Cavy stood back up and quietly walked to it. So did Ursai. Once Cavy was close enough she leaped into the air and the moth just narrowly escaped. Ursai stuck his paw outside of the bars and tried to grab it but it was no use, the moth had already crossed the pathway where the humans walked and into a cage full four baby Scuttleclaws and settled on the wall behind the wrestling dragons.

"Oh come on!" Cavy whined.

"We did all that for nothing?" moaned Ursai.

"No, not nothing. For one it gave you exercise and two it was fun to watch" I said with a grin.

Sevi grunted in annoyance wanting to smack that grin right off my face.

"Well it's been a rough day for me so I'm going to sleep" I yawned.

Then Sevi said "okay me too" and all the little Sand Wraiths cuddled around me and we drifted off to sleep.
