I awakened and felt more refreshed than ever. I huffed then yawned and protracted my teeth. I looked around and noticed it was night.

I felt something stirring against my side so I looked down. It was Layla. She was curled up into a little ball and was using my wing as a blanket. She looked so cute and I didn't want to disturb her but I really wanted to explore my freedom. I carefully lifted my wing and put it between the little human and me then stood up with my wing still supporting her back. I looked around for something for her to lean against and saw a little soft sack on the wood slab. I used my spare wing to get it close enough for me to grab with my mouth. I then cautiously switched it with my wing.

I backed away and she shivered. I grabbed the animal fur I was sitting on and dragged it on top of her. She sighed and I sneaked down and out the door. I breathed in the evening air. I missed the smell. I took off with a running leap and soared gracefully around the island. Then I thought should I stay here? They helped me, and are really nice and all but, this isn't my real home.

I glided to the other side of the island and looked around for something to hunt. I wasn't too hungry but I wanted to catch something anyway. Maybe the humans would like it.

Flew to the far side of the island and went a little lower. I looked down and scanned for anything moving. I saw something dark colored moving around. It seemed to be a mammal. I dived and shot at it through the leaves then I heard a draconic roar. I guess it wasn't a mammal.

I heard it hiss and I flew away. I wasn't in the mood for getting in a tangle with a dragon. I've had enough of that to last a lifetime. I saw a flock of nesting seagulls. There were hundreds of them. My mother has told me about it but I never expected to see it. I saw them sitting on chicks and eggs. I licked my lips. I love eggs.

I descended and a big dragon got in my way. I hissed and it howled in a jittery and mammal-like way. It reminded me of a laughing and whooping crowd. It was a big white dragon with blue and yellow swirls all over his body. His wings stretched from his shoulders all the way to the tip of his tail and they rippled like waves as he flapped them.

He roared again and shot a green blob that I was quick to evade. They reminded me of the dragon with the beautiful voice and wings and her blobs. I zoomed around him and caught a seagull in midair. He roared again but this time a little deeper and more like a laughing dog. I turned around and he shot another blob but I dove under him. I sneered. Like he would get me that easily.

I heard a spitting sound and my tail was covered in sticky slime. I lost control but tried to get as close to the village as I could before falling. The slime didn't harden like the orange kind does but it was really sticky. I tried to keep my balance with my secondary wings and I was able to glide. However it was almost impossible to turn or go up. The only way was forwards and down. I approached the mountain I slept on a couple nights before and soon inelegantly landed by crashing into a wall above a ledge.

I got up and shook off the pain and looked at my tail and saw it covered in goo. I blasted it but did nothing. I slammed it into a rock and then it was stuck there. Franticly roared and tried to move my tail but nothing happened. At least I still had my seagull. I looked over my shoulder and saw the big white dragon coming to me. I yelped and looked around then realized I could blast the rock. I shot it and it busted into bits then I ran off being careful to keep my tail off the ground.

I turned a corner and saw the sun rising over the place where the humans live. I ran to the edge and looked down. It was a long drop. I reminded myself of the first time I saw the ledge at my den when I was little. I pushed it away and jumped and clumsily glided to the village and soon I narrowly missed a house and collided with the dirt road.
