We stood for some minutes and my back began to hurt, so I suggested we sat down by the stony platform, which she reluctantly complied to after some minutes of persuasion. I had on me my black tank top that I had covered up with my jacket as an explicit form of modesty. I would have preferred to have it taken off otherwise. I stared at her sparkly eyes that forcibly tried to hold down strings of parallel watery beads. All that time, I thought I had been wrongly judged. It turned out I had unknowingly stolen someone's boyfriend.
"I'm so sorry Ivy... "
"Don't be. It's all in the past now. If there is anyone to be sorry for the other, it's me. Like I said, I made a promise to myself to make sure you spend the rest of your life paying for what you stole from me," she replied as she turned to face me probably to be sure the message sunk in, "I can see you're carrying a baby now and I learned it belongs to him. It was supposed to be me. He told me he loved me, that was until you showed yourself and ruined everything."
"You studied at Oakland?" I asked surprised.
"Of course you wouldn't remember me. Our conversation is pretty much over," she replied wiping off the invisible specks of dust and dabbing her lower eyelid.
"Ivy wait!" I started holding on to her fingers and pleading she stayed, "I'm sorry I stole Edward, but he isn't what he seems.""What do you mean by that?" she asked releasing her fingers from my hold and folding her arms.
"Well... Not until after college. I lived with him and this I know. He has changed to something I cannot explain to you right now. If it makes you feel any better, we are separated now," I replied hoping the sincerity display my eyes gave would meet hers, but she focused ever so intently on the colorful bougainvillea that graced the entrance.
"How can this make me feel any better? You are done with him and you want me to repair the damaged pieces and have it to myself? I hate to say this, but he loved you Maya and I know he still does. This is something I craved but never got and all this attention is pointed towards you and you don't even care," she stopped to take in intermittent breaths that was mostly choked up by tears and slowly continued, "I don't know who Daniel was, but I know he loved you too and I also know you know what happened to him. Now if you don't want me to tell Sofia the real truth, stay away from me," she replied aiming for a pull on the door to the entrance.
"Ivy!" we both turned simultaneously turned to the voice that startled the both of us.
"Edward," she replied with resentment still keeping the tears in check.
"I'm sorry.. " he feebly replied.
"Sorry?" she started with a pained laughter, "sorry for what exactly? My college years being wasted on you or the fact you dumped me without caring how I would feel?"
"I'm guessing both."
"Just stay away from me. The both of you," she replied forcefully pulling the door's handle and subliming into the interior.
"Edward what are you doing here? Came to willfully submit yourself?" I asked burying my eyes into his. I couldn't help but notice how very not taken care of he looked. His hair leaped about ruffled. His top most button was open leaving a thin line wide enough to see his cut skin on his chest. I wondered how many of such marks he got. I pulled my eyes away from what seemed to have gotten it's attention very much and focused on his cherry lips instead.
"I could ask you the same question. You had all the time in the world to turn me over but you didn't. Why?"
"Like I said, I'm nothing like you," I replied pulling a mass of my hair behind my ear and walking past, but he held me back firmly grabbing my hand and holding me still.
