"Why did you kill her? Why didn't you kill me? Why did you cooperate with her if you wouldn't kill me?" I asked Annabelle when we had gotten into her car.

"Question.. Question and more questions... I still have my gun," she replied just dodging a collision with a car.

"No.. You won't kill me. If you had wanted to, you would have done so since. You need me, so I figured you wouldn't kill me."

"True... I would have killed you since if I wanted to, but I've gotten quite fond of you lately and we make a good team... And false, I don't need you."

"So, how do you plan to kill the mayor?"

"Glad you asked. You have a part to play in that."

"I'm a journalist and my boyfriend is a detective. Do the math."

"Exactly, his cause of death will not be traceable and you can convince your detective boyfriend he died by some other means. Your part however, is to feed the public with what they need to hear."

"Is there no other way you can destroy that cult without killing the mayor?"

"To kill the body effectively, you aim for the head. Never forget that! We are here," she replied. Her car engine stopped and she carefully took out the keys and loaded her gun with something she called poison bullets, "Go over the plan again."

••••

"I'm here to see the mayor," I said when I walked into his office and met two men in black suits guarding the door.

"Sorry, no visitors allowed," one replied back. He had a black pair of glasses on with a matching suit and so did the other.

I brought out my ID and handed it to one of them who glanced at the other and then back to me. He told me to wait for a minute while he went into a room behind him and before long, came out and told me I was permitted to go in.

All through the while I've been a journalist, I've never had a one on one session with the Town's mayor. He did look a little bit grumpier than the stations paint him or it was just the messy mood I met him in.

"Maya Anderson?" he asked.

"Yes sir. Journalist and a report writer for Times Daily," I replied.

"Interesting," he commented staring at the lanyard that dangled on my neck.

I took a seat opposite his as his trailed off and followed my every move. I didn't know how I was supposed to pull this through, but I know I've always wanted to have this meeting. I was staring face to face with him when I pushed my eyes away and reached into my back pocket for my phone and placed the conversation on record slowing putting the phone on my legs and placing a short jotter above it.

"Congratulations on your win," I began biting my lower lip.

"Thank you," he replied briefly.

"It must have been a great time for you. I mean you've won severally,"

"Well, the citizens made their choice clear."

"So you are saying that the citizens made their choice void of any manipulation or malpractice whatsoever?"

"Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying."

"Can you explain how your opponent who by far managed to gather the whole south, didn't still beat you at your game?" I asked. "I mean it's alarming and surprising because some people think you are in a cult."

He took a pen from his desk and twirled with it. Looking into my face sternly, he gave a penetrating disturbing look. Then moved closer and added, "I feel threatened and I don't like feeling threatened. What do you know?"

"N..nothing," I replied pressing hard on my seat.

"You have come here, to find out what you can use against me. You have come here not for an exclusive, but guess what? Your plan has failed and soon enough I will conquer this town and have all the power I can get. The Arch will be unstoppable then and the citizens will never know what's coming to them."

I swallowed hard and then quickly brought out the amulet Annabelle gave me should things go wrong while she found a way to hack into the security cameras. According to her, the amulet will cause threatening and bone crushing pains to every member of the Arch between the circumference of that office. The mayor soon screamed and fell back into his chair. My hands shook as I held it up and grabbing my phone, I texted Annabelle that the Mayor was vulnerable at that moment.

"Good job," she said to me when she came and brought out a gun aiming for his head. She shot once, then two times, but it didn't seem to be working. In fact, he got up much stronger than the amulet left him.

"Shit! Poison bullets don't work on him. He is resistant to them," she said to me.
"Oh my God! What are we going to do?" I asked.

"Honestly... I don't know," she replied. The men who guarded the door had come in and stood behind us while the mayor gave a brief nod and then we were carried away from there into somewhere that looked like a closet.

"So much for your grand plan," I said making a face. Annabelle sighed and calculated how we would escape or at least, that was what she said. I suddenly remembered something and gasped "I still have my recording of the conversation we have,"

"Great. Except that we need to leave here first before we think about exposing him," she replied uninterested.

I pouted at her sarcasm and thought briefly again before adding, "I have Leone on speed dial. Maybe if I just sit on the right button, I can place a call and have him come rescue us."

"Your detective boyfriend? Just who we need right now. So how do we get to your butt? Our hands are tied to these chairs remember?" she asked. I noticed sarcasm, but I was getting used to it already

"Well you are the one with the amulets and witchy witchy stuff. Do something," I replied and when she didn't budge I added, "I didn't think so." I began bouncing on the chair and rubbing my butt on a sliding motion at intervals.

"Wait... What do you think you are doing?"

"Trying to place a call."

"That is a ridiculous move, but I think I like it."

"I think it just worked," I said when I noticed the receiving end of Leone's Voicemail.
