The bar had people stream in and out taking seats and ordering liquor. The bartenders served faithfully, balancing trays with wine glasses on two fingers and a rag on one side of their shoulders, attending to their orders. Bottles of assorted wine stood in elegance behind the counter where the bartenders stood. Stools were arranged in an ordered fashion, but were constantly being moved about by it's inhabitants. Edward sat right on one of the stools still amazed at the sight of his sister.
"You now go with Edward? I was pretty sure your birth name was Adam," she started with her legs graciously and effortlessly swinging by the sides of the stool.
"A lot has happened since you left," he replied with a more detailed smirk.
"I'm curious. Do tell.."
"What are you doing here?" he asked, ignoring her question and laughing softly. Shock and surprise were welded on his face.
"I've been away for a long while, I'll really appreciate if the first question you ask is not what I'm doing here. Nevertheless, to answer your question dear brother, I came for the burial of a friend."
"Daniel.. " he said while his countenance changed considerably into a somewhat disappointed one.
"You knew him?"
"Let's just say things between us went awry."
"I know that face," she replied just as soon as the bartender brought her liquor, "you killed him," she finished, engulfing her drink as she did. The remains still stuck to the base of the glass and rolled back down when she dropped the cup.
"What do you care?"
"I don't," she replied without bating her brow.
"So your parents died and that doesn't draw you back home. Some random guy dies and here you are."
"Our father was a monster. I couldn't care less about his death."
"Our mother? She loved you so much Anna. She mourned you while you were gone."
"You had always been her favorite even in death. Please spare me the boring details," she said running her fingers round the rim of the glass, "but she remained with that monster who made our lives miserable instead of heeding the red light and escaping when she got the chance. None of them matter to me anymore."
"So you are here because of Daniel? What exactly was your relationship with him?"
"We were business partners...at one time," she looked through her glass while her mind flashed through old memories, "he was so handsome and elegant and I wanted him all to myself. But for some crazy reason, he kept professing his undying love for this one girl. It got me jealous."
"You came all this way to get revenge?"
"I know better," she replied with a mischievous smile that made Edward nervous, "I have other plans."
Edward caught a glimpse of Maya standing in a near far distance, just towards the entrance to the bar and narrowed his eyes to her lovely dress. Annabelle grew curious at to what drew his attention and turned around just before Maya settled for a seat.
"Who's the pregnant one?" she asked, waving her hand to attract the bartender's attention.
"Never mind... It's complicated," he replied.
"Oh come on! You never did have a thing for girls. She must be special," she countered with a wink.
"Yes, she is special." His words were hijacked by the throaty cough that followed after his large gulp from his glass.
