The Next Day I'd arranged for some friends and close relatives to come over to celebrate Joe's home coming. I was still a little numb from last night, but I wasn't gonna let that ruin my husband being home and enjoying himself.
People began arriving around 12. I got Kailaieah dressed and ready, Joe fed her while I went out to get some last minute accessories for the party. I quickly walked through the isles of the store, picking up the things I needed.
After I got what I needed, I left back for home. As I pulled up, there were two other cars parked out front.
I got out, grabbed the small bag and went inside the house. I walked into the kitchen. Because our back door is practically IN the kitchen, I could smell the grill from outside.
As I walked out the back door, I could see Joe's parents playing with Kailaieah.
I walked down the stairs of the deck, and onto the grass. I spotted Joe at the grill talking to Derrick. I walked to the table where Joe's parents sat with Kailaieah. "Hey"! Joe's mom said as I walked up. I smiled weakly. Joe's dad handed me Kailaieah. I fixed my grip on Kailaieah as I stood, talking to his parents. He seen me and walked over, holding a coke. He stood next to me and touched my back nervously. I looked over at him. I smiled weakly. "Hey" I said loud enough for him to hear. He leaned in and kissed my cheek softly. "Son, I'm proud of you" Joe's dad said sincerely. I blushed. He just looked at me and smiled.
