It was another sleepless night for Yachi. The art ideas kept her up every night and she can't wait for the sun to rise to start drawing. She has to make it until the idea is still fresh or else she would be dissatisfied with the output. It has been like this for two straight weeks now. But she's not bothered at all for she considers herself as a night person. A calm and dark night helps her mind to produce creative ideas. But because of this, she couldn't get any sleep at night that she often wakes up at noon.
After completing the messy sketch of a girl watching the moonlight that she drew on the vellum board, she heard her stomach grumble. There's no way she could last until coloring if her aching tummy keeps bothering her. As much as she wants to proceed with line art, she puts her pencil down and shoved the other coloring materials aside. She stands up from her wooden chair and went to the kitchen. She stopped in front of the refrigerator and pulled the handle. She peeks inside as she felt the cold air coming from it. There are only meats and pickles inside. She wanted to eat something instant but her fridge failed her. The artist has no other choice but to buy some in the convenient store. It is open for 24 hours so she would turn up there sometimes to buy some midnight snacks. She closed the fridge and went back to her room to grab a jacket, her keys, her phone and of course her wallet. She wore her jacket first before stepping out of her apartment. It was cold outside but that was to be expected. She locked the door and left the apartment building.
The scent, the sound, and the color of the night are the best. It feels like the world in chaos during the day has calmed down during the night. Yachi looked at the stars as she walks. The beautiful canvas which is the sky made her fall in love with the stars again. It was breathtaking as ever. She was enjoying the moment that she didn't notice that she was finally in front of the convenient store. The doors automatically opened and she walked inside. The guy standing behind the counter greeted her with a smile. Yachi haven't seen that face before. He must be new. She looked around. There are only two customers picking some junk foods and pocky but they seem to be troubled about what flavor they should get. Yachi walked around to choose something that could fill her stomach. She decided to get some instant noodles and onigiri. She went straight to the counter after picking what she wanted. The guy before was fixing some products but when he noticed that a customer is waiting in front of the counter, he set aside what he was doing and hurriedly walked to the counter.
"Good evening, ma'am," his lively voice said.
"G-good evening," she replied back. She put the items on the counter and while the guy scans them, she looked at his name tag.
'Shouyou, huh?' she thought.
"You're new here, right?" The words escaped from her lips, breaking the silence.
"Yup. I just started yesterday," he responded. His adorable smile is never fading from his face.
Yachi watched him as he puts the items in the plastic bag.
"That would be 1, 500 yen."
She pulled her pocket which she stuffed in her pocket and paid.
"I received 2, 000 yen. Here's your exchange."
The girl showed her palm but when he noticed something, he halted.
"Were you drawing?" he asked. His eyes went from her hand to her eyes. His eyes were beautiful. She wanted to her stare at them for a while until she can remember them and draw them later. But she was anxious to make eye contact for more than two seconds so she looked at her hand. It has smudges that came from a pencil.
"O-oh, yeah," she nodded.
"That's cool! Can I see some of your arts?" His smile got wider.
"Sure. I upload some of them online," she fished for her phone and opened an app. She clicked her profile and showed the orange-head guy her phone. "Here."
The boy took it and his eyes sparkled. He scrolls down to see more magnificent arts which made him fell in love with her drawings. Her arts usually consist of stars. She must've liked them, he thought. Even her hairclip also has a star design on it. He saw her username "yachitoka" and made sure to remember the name so he could look it up later.
He gave her the phone back and chirped, "That's totally amazing! Your artworks are very beautiful as you!"
Yachi blushed at the compliment. She just hoped that the other two customers didn't hear him but that seems impossible since it is quiet.
"T-thank you," she bashfully said.
"Anyway, here's your order and your exchange. Thank you very much. Please come again."
"Thank you, too. I will."
Before she goes back, she took one last glance at the boy's face. He is shining brightly in this dark night. The artist stared for too long so she already memorized the small details in his features. She stood in front of the door and it opened.
A guy with brown hair exited the staff room and closed it. He went back to the counter and his orange-head coworker called him.
"Ennoshita-san! Do you know an artist named yachitoka? She posts her works online and they were really great!"
"I don't know. I don't always visit the net. Why did you ask, Hinata?"
Hinata paused for a moment then shook his head no. "Nothing."
Yachi finally got back to her apartment. She forgot her hungry state and went immediately to her room. She sat on her table, took another drawing pad and started scribbling the cutest being that she had ever seen.
