"Taeil is a man."
Johnny's nose scrunched up with distaste. "Yeah, okay. We're not doing this again," he stated and tried to walk past Mark, but the younger didn't let him go.
"John, think about it! Her voice is deeper than a girl's, her name is Taeil - a male name, for crying out loud! - and she even looks like a boy!"
Johnny considered it, but then disregarded it. He was the one that had spent nearly twenty-four hours a day for a week talking to her, and with her, and he'd probably notice if she was a he. Mark had only seen a photograph, and of course he'd call her a guy since she had short hair in it.
He rolled his eyes. "Taeil's a girl, idiot."
Mark exhaled and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Look, do you have any photos of 'her'?" He asked, forming the quotation marks with his fingers.
Johnny's finger was tapping impatiently against his thigh before he nodded, clenching his jaw and pulling out his phone to find a photograph of Moon Taeil.
When he found a few, he handed it over to Mark. Mark's eyes narrowed and he aimed the screen away from him. "Dude, I didn't ask for her nudes!"
Johnny raised his arms in the air. "Well, I don't know, man! Those are the only pictures I've got!" In truth, he was getting extremely annoyed by Mark. Why couldn't he just let him enjoy being with Taeil this once? With the last girlfriend, it was that she was too picky of an eater. The one before that was 'easily irritated', and now Taeil's a 'man'?! What did Mark have against him going out with people?
The younger just exhaled exaggeratedly and dealt with it. "Fine, if this is all you have..."
But even in those photographs, Mark could point out a million problems.
The first thing he pointed out was her chest, which was as flat as an ironing board. Johnny just rolled his eyes, because he knew not all girls developed up there anyway. That didn't matter to him at all.
Secondly, it was his neck. "Look right there!" Mark exclaimed, zooming in on her skin. "What is that?" He asked, and Johnny bit his tongue.
"An Adam's apple," he replied quietly, and Mark nodded with his eyebrows up high.
"And it's big! You're not even meant to see them on a girl!"
Johnny crossed his arms. "So what if her Adam's apple shows?"
"Then maybe she is a he, Johnny!"
Johnny snapped. "What are you trying to do?"
"What? Nothing! I'm just telling you that Taeil's a guy because I don't want you to treat him badl--"
"Why can't you leave me be?!"
Mark stared up at Johnny who looked like he had just had his heart torn out of his chest. Why? Because everything made sense.
Mark sighed to calm himself down. "I'm telling the truth," he tried, but Johnny scoffed, making a grab for his phone.
"Yeah, right," the older rolled his eyes and began to walk away, but when Mark said,
"Why do you think you had Grindr on your phone?" Johnny stopped.
Her turned around, a certain dullness shading his eyes. "Yeah, that's a good question. Why did I have Grindr on my phone, Mark? Didn't I ask for Tinder?"
Mark was left speechless by the anger in his brother's eyes and the redness on his cheeks. He cleared his throat. "Johnny, in case you missed the memo, I'm gay, alright? Searching Grindr is a habit! Searching straight stuff just didn't even cross my mind!"
At least that explained why everybody he matched with was male.
"So yeah, I made a mistake, and I'm sor--"
Johnny was long gone. Mark stopped talking when the bedroom door slammed shut, shaking the entire house as a deafening silence settled like a thick layer of dust over them.
I guess that talk went the 'really badly' route then.
