you couldn't stand it anymore, being with him. you couldn't bear seeing him push himself to be the opposite of his father. sure, he hated him and you disliked the man too. but how he acted towards everyone around you, it was killing him. killing what you loved about him and he just couldn't see it.
and it was too late when he finally noticed.
you went about your daily life, wishing things could of been different but you know that wouldn't be the case. you hoped he had found himself but in reality he only broke further down. if there's one thing thats similar to him and his father, you would say they're both stubborn as hell.
you weren't surprised when you found out you both transferred into the same school. you did your best to stay focused on your studies, to not think or worry about him. but he looked your way when you were unaware. his discolored eyes trembled with regret as he watched you from afar. but he made his choice and so did you. he can't change the past.
but he'll do his best to alter the future.
when you both meet again its on a holiday, you're silent and so is he. you had a million things you could of said but none of it seemed like it was the right time. his solemn expression has you thinking back to before. you feel your chest tighten up in the chilling winter.
" How have you been? "
you dont know how to answer. but he smiles at your lack of words. maybe thats all you both need. silence. just standing and listening to each other exist from a tempting distance. you know what it is he wants to say but you arent ready to hear it.
especially while you're out on a date
