POV: Hazel

Other information: Hazel is attending Goode- the same school as Percy.

It was my first day of school, and honestly another war with Gaea was preferable. From what I knew school had changed since the 40's, yet still I was probably more scared than I had ever been before. I mean you can kill monsters, but you can't exactly decapitate bullies.

I walked into my first class, math, and everyone stared at me like I was some kind of circus animal.

"Class, this is the new student, Hazel Levesque," The class continued to stare, "would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" The teacher, Mr Richardson asked.

"I'm Hazel, I'm..." half god "...15, before here I was..." in a war "... at a school in San Fransisco bay. I have a brother..." who can literally raise the dead "... called Nico."

Mr Richardson directed me to a seat next to a girl with muddy brown hair obscuring most of her face.

"Hi, I'm Hazel!" I whispered quietly.

"I'm Jess!"

"I have a friend here, Percy, a few years above us, do you know him?"

"Well, not personally, but he's kinda semi popular."

"Figures..."

By lunch Jess was the only friend I had made, and to be quite honest, I wasn't even sure if she wanted to be my friend. I stood in the lunch hall looking for somewhere free to sit.

"You can sit with me... if you like, I mean..." Jess said from behind me, in her quiet, shy voice.

"Thanks!" I smiled at her, quickly following to where she sat with her friends.

"Guys this is Hazel." Jess told her friends when we arrived at the table in the corner of the room, near to the bins. I was guessing this wasn't exactly the popular table.

I got to know her friends quickly, there was Chloe, she had short ginger hair and a lot of freckles. Joe, brown hair, glasses, super smart. And finally Karen, dirty blond hair and very short. I really liked them all, they were the outcasts and geeks of the school, but they took it in their stride. Within moments of meeting them we were all in hysterics.

Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder, I swung round at lightening speed- expecting a manticore or something. It was Percy. Typical.

"Hey Hazel!" he said in his usual jolly voice "Hey Jess, Joe, Karen. Oh, Joe, awesome job with mathletes last week!" he held out his hand for Joe to fist bump, to which Joe obliged, warily.

Everyone looked shocked, I guess kinda semi-popular people didn't usually tend to know their names.

"So, Hazel, how's the first day?" he asked, oblivious to the shocked faces around the table.

"Cool," I started "in fact, you could say I'm having a really Goode day!"

Everyone around the table rolled their eyes.

"Really, Hazel?" Percy asked exasperated. I shrugged in return. "Well I gotta go to swim practice, but if you meet me after school I'll give you a ride home." he continued, before leaving.
