I was sat on the cool sand at the beach of Camp Half Blood, my eyes fixed on Percy Jackson. He didn't know about my crush on him- and I intended to keep it that way. Percy was watching the 4th of July fireworks display with Annabeth- it was pretty much the most romantic night of the year here at camp. As Percy and Annabeth leant in to kiss I turned my attention to the sky.

"Yo, Nico!" Jack Hallin, a son of Apollo, called before coming to sit next to me.

I had not really spent much time with Jack. He seemed to radiate happiness, and reminded me of a summers day. I inhaled his scent of freshly cut grass and almost became lost in his sky blue eyes rimmed with a yellowy-gold colour like the sun.

"Here alone?" He asked, but before I had time to reply he laughed "got your eye on someone way out of your league?" He laughed again, a gesture that would usually make me feel uncomfortable, but with him I felt... At peace. "I think I know the feeling..." He carried on, more sadly this time.

For a while we just looked up at the sky in a comfortable silence, lying next to each other on the beach. As usual my mind wondered to Percy, I just felt so conflicted. Did I like him? Yes. But did I like him in the way he likes Annabeth, or the way Jason liked Piper? Well, I didn't know.

Suddenly Jacks voice broke my train of thought "screw it!" He said, before swiftly sitting up. "Why should I be without a date on the most romantic night of the year?" This time I sat up too, looking at him in confusion. Before I had time to process my thoughts Jacks silk soft lips were connected with mine. And it was the first time in years I wasn't thinking about Percy.
