Woman - mumford and sons

(a shouting female voice from a distance) :Kate ! won’t you be late for school like that !? your breakfast is ready, come down quick.
I look at my watch it’s already 6:45, I have been writing for 3 hours now!! Wow time flew I should be done as soon as possible.
I stand up from my desk open the curtains and look at the mirror, my hair has gotten longer, the sunbeams from the window make it look reddish rather than dark brown, my reddish brown eyes look weary and the dark under eye circles are expanding by the day, my skin looks as pale as ever.
I take a look back at my writings, I feel very proud about myself right now, I close the notebook, put it in my backpack and run downstairs, I am late already and it takes me a while till I reach my school so I pick up my breakfast, put it in a plastic bag and throw it in my backpack.
Kate: bye mom, bye dad.
I run as fast as I can to the garage pick up my bike and set off to the main road, we live in a small town with not so many cars.. or people really, so the roads are narrow and the bridges, well actually it’s one bridge, is for walking, I love our town though it’s the source of inspiration for all my writings.
I now pass past the bridge and for some reason I stop, leave my bike and walk towards the metal fence, I try to squeeze my head between the iron pillars of the fence to see more clearly what’s on the marsh, but there was nothing. No worn out red shack, no old chair with logs in front of it, no fishes, nothing…
Wait, what am I even doing!? What was I expecting!? I shake the craziness out of my head and go back to my bike.
I am not exactly popular in school, nor am I a nerd or an outcast, I don’t really fit in any of the common stereotypes, but all I know is that I have a couple of acquaintances and one girl “jesse” that is my friend.. I guess!?
I enter the classroom, great I’m not late. I sit on my desk for about ten minutes I am sitting there but my mind is still at the bridge and the story and the red shack, why can’t I focus? I have been writing this story for years now, why does it feel different today!?
Jesse: Kate ! are you okay !? wake up sleeping beauty, reality is calling.
Kate: oh.. sorry I must’ve got distracted.
The school day passed normally, though I must say my mind was absent throughout most of the classes today, I just can’t seem to focus…
Jesse: hey, I’ll walk you home today I don’t think you’re okay.
Kate: no really you don’t need to, I’m fine.
She walked with me anyway.
It’s 4:46, the sun is setting, we remained silent throughout the entire walk till we reached the bridge.
Kate: ( I try to break the silence with a thought) have you noticed Jesse, how everything turns shades of red yellow and orange whenever the sun starts setting…
Jesse: oh really (looks around).. yes you’re right, I haven’t thought about that before, interesting.
Kate: I’m not a big fan of sunsets you know.
Jesse: why is that? everyone likes sunsets, they are considered romantic and stuff (laughs a little).
Kate: (taking the conversation way too seriously) I don’t know.. they just seem like it’s the ending, everything disappears afterwards, even your shadow.
Jesse: (making fun of how the conversation went) well that’s some deep talk over here, so is all that because you don’t like the night?
Kate: no it’s not like that, I like mornings and nights but I don’t like the transition between mornings and nights, although I love sunrises, they give you your shadow back.
Jesse: ( not knowing what to say really) the river looks so pretty right?
Kate: ( turns to look at the river) yeah it is, (pauses for a moment) have you ever thought about exploring the sloping march beyond the fence?
Jesse: (saying it as if it was an obvious thing) NO, why would I even do that?
Kate:… just for fun you know..(suddenly checks her bag), jesse wait ! I think I forgot my books at school! You go back home and I’ll run quickly back to school to get them.
Jesse: I can wait for you if you want.
Kate: no no it’s okay just go ( running towards the opposite direction back to school)
Jesse: okay then as you wish… ( walks on on her way)
