"Come on Cassie, you know that isn't true," you tried.
Cassie hugged you tighter, sniffling into your shoulder as she cried. "They said that-that I was too dumb to-to go with them," she cried.
"They're just jealous of how amazing you are! You're super smart, Cass. You have straight A s in school!" you tried comforting your little sister.
Scott walked into the room to find his kids sitting on the floor, Cassie hugging you as you rocked her slightly, crying into your shoulder.
"Hey, what's wrong?" he was immediately alarmed and knelt down by the two of you, rubbing Cassie's back.
You shook your head. "The girls at school said I was too stupid!" Cassie told him, not looking up.
"Cass-" you started.
"That's not true. You're one of the smartest, most talented people I know, Cassie. Those girls are most likely feeling threatened by your amazingness so they're trying to make you feel not amazing. But you can't listen to them, got it? They're just jealous and feeling bad about themselves. You're so smart, Cass. Don't listen to them," Scott interrupted you, making Cassie finally look up.
"You promise you don't think I'm dumb?"
"We promise," you said at the same time as your dad. "We love you so much, Peanut."
"I love you guys too." she responded, looking up with a small smile.
