The story idea starts showing the first bomb they defuse.
The first bomb is the weird bomb. The bomb is in a container (let's go with a suitcase for now until I decide to change or keep it). The bomb has two blocks of C4 but one is fake aka the left one and the one on the right is real. The fake one is made from cake material similar to the one said in the Burn Notice TV show aka one of the spy tips. The fake C4 block on the left has real detonating cord on it on the top and the real C4 block on the right has real detonating cord on the bottom of the real C4 block and his hidden and blocked/trap in a metal box on the bottom so you can defuse it correctly.
If you defuse the fake C4 block on the left the bomb will cause the real C4 block on the right to detonate.
So basically to defuse the bomb you have to let the counter/timer go down to 00:00 seconds before you defuse and if you don't and try to defuse it beforehand it will cause the bomb to detonate.
