"Say hi to daddy." Zach said and he looked at your daughter. She was supposed to sleep but since her father wasn't here, she wasn't able to. You wanted to sleep too but you couldn't because Hazel wouldn't stop crying. Zach waved at the camera and she went quiet. He started singing and she slowly fell asleep.
"I don't know if I can do this for much longer Zach." I said and i held back the tears. I saw he felt sorry, but there was nothing he could do. Two weeks, Two weeks left before he would be back home, before he would be the one to rock Hazel back to sleep, two weeks. I heard someone knock on the door. Why was someone on my door at 2 am?
"Someone just knocked on the door," I said. "Should I open?"
I saw he doubted.
"I don't know if it's safe." He said. I walked to the door, with Hazel still in my hands. I heard the knock again. I started to worry.
"Get away from that door, I'm calling 911." Zach said. He hung up the phone and I ran to my room. I heard the knocks get louder. A loud noise found it's way to my ear and Hazel started to cry again. I tried to calm her but it didn't work.
"Zach, please come home." I said to myself, tears were falling down my face. I held Hazel close to me and closed my eyes. I heard something hit the door, followed by footsteps. I stood up from my bed and laid Hazel down in her crib, hoping she would stay quiet and the burglar would leave her alone. I heard something fall downstairs and focused on my clock.
tic tac tic tac tic tac
Suddenly I saw the doorknob move. I froze and closed my eyes, I heard Hazel snore. He was searching through some stuff when I felt his breathe in my face.
"No worries." He said with his deep and raspy voice. I wanted to scream for help, but I was afraid that he would kill me. I felt him move away from me and heard his footsteps move to the other side of the bed. He laid down next to me for a little while. My breathing was heavy. I felt my heart throb in my throat and I tried to keep my tears from falling. He stood up from the bed and I shortly opened my eyes. He was walking to the door. When he was about to walk out, Hazel started crying. He froze, turned around and walked to her crib.
"Hey babygirl,"He said "You don't have to cry." You could hear his grin. I slowly tried to grab the bat from under our bed. Zach always kept one there just in case. I felt nothing, maybe he moved it somewhere else. When I was about to give up, and just fight the guy, I felt something. I grabbed it and held it close to me. He was still talking to her and I was waiting for the right moment. He slowly moved forward to get her out of her crib. I was shaking. I stood up from the bed trying to make no noise. When I stood behind him I started doubting everything.
"Maybe I can take you with me too." He said and that was it.
"Don't move." I said, emotionless. He was still holding Hazel and slowly turned around.
"Don't move!" I said, this time a bit louder. He was still grinning and I pointed my bat at him.
"You won't." He said. I looked in his dark eyes. Anger was rushing through my body.
"Why not?"I asked him.
"Because you're a woman, just a housewife, you're not brave enough." He said and with every word he said I saw spit coming from his mouth.
"Give me the baby." I said and he slowly gave her to me. I didn't know why though. I laid her down on my bed and focused on the man again. He was still smiling and it scared me. He looked so confident, maybe they were with more? I walked closer to him and held the bat high. I looked at the floor, to afraid for what I was gonna do. I swang the bat around and yelled. I heard people run up the stairs and panicked.
"So they were with more." I fell on the ground and the door opened.
"Hands up!" I heard someone say, and so I did what I was asked. I saw handcuffs and realized I was gonna get kidnapped. Someone kneeled down beside me.
"It's okay, we're here." He said, somethig in his voice was very calming. I looked up and realized it was the police that had walked in. From then on everything was a blur and next thing I knew, I was at the police office.
"y/n!" I saw his face through the phone and I all I wanted was to hug him.
"Zach, I-" I said but got interrupted by my tears.
"You don't have to talk about it baby, I fixed a flight for you and Haz." Zach said and I calmed down a bit.
"When are we leaving?" I asked him, still sobbing.
"Tomorrow evening, and I'll finally be able to hold you again." He said and I smiled. I wiped away my tears.
"Baby, you need to sleep." Zach said so I walked to an officer to ask if I could go to my moms house, which was just around the corner. Someone walked us there and when we arrived I called Zach again.
"Just sleep, baby, I'll sing you some songs." He started singing 8 letters and it calmed me. I slowly dozed off.- 2 days later -
We were walking through a hallway, we just arrived from our flight and when the doors opened I saw him, standing there. I ran into his arms and we sat on the floor with Hazel in between us. And we kissed. She didn't know what was going on but starting smiling as soon as she realised her dad was there. He held her and me close. We stood up and went to the hotel where the boys were sleeping. Once we arrived everybody welcomed us and for the first time since the robbery, I felt home and safe.
