"Praetor... Are you awake?"

I can hear a voice. It rings clear like a pair of golden bells.

A feathery touch envelops my hands; smooth as silk and soft like a cloud.

I open my eyes to see my lover, my partner, my empress, kneeling in front of me. Her golden hair envelops her round face and frames her emerald green eyes such that she looks like the living epitome of beauty. Even Venus wouldn't hold a candle to Nero.

Our gazes meet, and she offers me a soft smile. "Praetor, you are finally awake."

I nod. My mouth moves, but all that comes out is a choked sob. Tears threaten to spill out from the corners of my eyes as I take in the woman in front of me.

She was here. I was here. We were together.

"Do not stain your pretty face with tears, Praetor. Let me see your smile, radiant as the sun at midday."

I oblige to the best of my ability, quivering with effort as I force back the tide of emotions overwhelming my heart. Seeing this, the loving ruler plants a light kiss on my forehead.

I can't hold it back anymore.

"Saber!" I wail, leaping into her arms. Tears now freely flowing down my cheeks as I bury my face into the crook of her neck. "Saber... Saber, Saber, Saber!"

I clung to her desperately calling her title, afraid that she was a mere fleeting dream that could disappear at any moment.

Her warmth and her kindness.

Her pride and her childishness.

Her passion and her terrible singing.

They were all aspects of her that I love. That I couldn't live without.

She was my everything. My will to live.

I can feel a hand combing through my long hair. The comforting words Nero uttered are lost among my ugly crying.

That's all I need, though. Just the comfort and reassurance of her presence.

Sniffling, I can finally feel my tears run dry before I deem it okay to look at Saber once again.

Her bright grin is all that it takes to light a hearth in my heart. The warm feeling rises through my chest, encompassing my entire body, and I feel myself break out into a smile myself.

"Saber, did it really work? Did the wish truly work?"

"Yes, my Praetor. This is a world born of your wish. A world made for the two of us where we can live in peace for eternity. There can be no greater treasure than this for an empress like me, and my beautiful wife."

My cheeks flush at the red swordswoman's blatant declaration, but at the same time I can't help but feel incredibly happy at the news. There was no more need to fight for survival in a war I had no place in.

Smirking, Nero places a dainty hand on my cheek and plants a chaste kiss on my lips. "As much as I enjoy the sight of you on top of me, perhaps these activities will be better suited for the bedroom."

"Oh? Are you feeling daring, Nero?" I return with a giggle. "Usually, you're the one mewling like a little kitten when we make love."

At this, Saber puffs up her cheeks like a hamster and pouts. "Th-That is unfair, Praetor! You are simply a bit more passionate than I! You caught me off guard! That is all!"

Says the experienced empress that always roughly pushes me down. Think about how I feel for having to go along with this role reversal almost every night. Still though. That's what's so cute about her.

"Wh-What is it, Praetor? Why are you staring at me with such intensity?"

"Just about thinking how cute you are, Nero."

The empress' face lights up in a fierce blush, painting her pale cheeks dark pink as she attempts to hide her embarrassment behind her hands. "Why must you be so sly, my love?"

Taking hold of her hands, I remove them from her face and clasp them with mine, interlocking our fingers. A silver ring with a small red jewel in the center that I hadn't noticed before were sitting on both our ring fingers.

"It's because you're like this, that I can't help but tease you."

I smile down at Saber, basking in this moment knowing that there will be many more days of this to come.

We share another kiss.

"I love you, Nero."
