Part 34

Steven and (Y/n) were in the bathroom as they were getting ready for bed. Steven yawns, then looks at the bathtub. "Good night, Peridot." Peridot was lying in the bathtub, sleeping with Pumpkin and some droplets of water were dropping on Peridot's gem. (Y/n) chuckles at the scene. Steven and (Y/n) exited the bathroom. Steven made his way to his bed, while (Y/n) climb into the couch.
"Goodnight, Steven."
"Goodnight, (Y/n)."
Steven and (Y/n) were beginning to fall asleep, but they were awoken by Ronaldo knocking on the door and yelling their names. Steven and (Y/n) got up and went to go answer the door. "Ronaldo, it's the middle of the night. What are you doing here?" (Y/n) yawns. "You both have to come to the lighthouse. I found something weird." Ronaldo whispers the last word to them.
Steven rubs his right eye, "You found something weird everyday since my dad got you that telescope."
"I know. I'm amazing. You won't believe my latest discovery. There's something on the moon!" Ronaldo points at the moon. "Can't you call Mayor Nanefua?" (Y/n) asked. "Not a fourth time!" Ronaldo yells.
Steven and (Y/n) put on their sweaters and went with Ronaldo to the lighthouse to see what he spotted on the moon.
(This is (Y/n)'s sweater for now on for cold weather.)

Steven was using the telescope and just saw the Moon Base. "This is the Moon Base. It's always been there." Steven said.
Ronaldo was surprised, "You have a moon base!? I have so many questions! One, why didn't you tell me about your moon base? Two, take me to your moon base. Three, why does it look like a barn?"
"It doesn't look like a b-. Wait, what!?" Steven looks at the telescope and finds the barn sitting on a crater of the moon. "Lapis!?"
"Let me see!" (Y/n) gently pushes Steven out of the way and saw the barn herself. "She's still here!?"
Steven and (Y/n) were riding on Wolf and Lion as they were warping to the Moon Base. As they arrived, Lion and Wolf crashed to the wall.
"Thanks, Lion. That super warp takes a lot out of you, huh?" Steven pets Lion. "You did great, Wolf." (Y/n) scratches Wolf's head. "You two stay here and rest up, okay?" Steven and (Y/n) go outside of the Moon Base while in Steven's bubble They both rolled the bubble all the way to the barn. They entered inside. "Lapis!" Steven called out. "Lapis Lazuli!" (Y/n) followed. They look around the barn, but there was no sign of Lapis anywhere. Steven and (Y/n) return back inside the Moon Base, then Steven unbubbles himself and (Y/n). They were confused about Lapis, but their thoughts were stopped when they heard someone humming upstairs. They both climb up the stairs and found Lapis kneeling down and humming at the projection orb. "Lapis!" Steven and (Y/n) yelled. Lapis was startled, "Steven? (Y/n)?" Steven and (Y/n) leaped towards her and pulled her into a hug.
" I can't believe it! It's so good to see you again!" Steven exclaimed. "Oh, really?" Lapis questioned shyly. "What's going on? We both thought you'd be halfway across the galaxy by now. Aren't you worried about the Diamonds coming to attack?" (Y/n) asked her.
"I got... distracted." Lapis admitted.
"By this orb thing? What is it?" Steven looked at the orb curiously. "Promise you won't judge me?" Lapis said nervously.
"I sleep with a teddy bear. No judgements." Steven said. "And I steal some cookies from the kitchen from when Steven's asleep." (Y/n) confessed.
"That was you? I always thought that was Amethyst."
"I couldn't help myself. Those cookies were delicious."
Lapis then proceeds and presses the orb, showing the hologram of the Earth, then she finds a place on the hologram and presses it, projecting Beach City in the whole Moon Base.
"Beach City!? Please explain this to me." Steven demands nervously.
"I know what that is. That orb is an observation device. The Diamonds used them to watch activity on their colonies from afar." (Y/n) explained. "I always seen these with my mother and Aunt Yellow."
Steven was impressed, "Wow. Can I try?"
"Sure." Lapse allowed Steven to change the projection to a different location.
"Woah. But Lapis, what are you using it for?" Steven asked. Lapis changes the location to the outside of the Crystal Temple where the Crystal Gems are seen training. Peridot used her metal abilities and throws a tin can in the air. Pearl pierces it with her spear. Peridot then throws two tin cans, with Amethyst destroying it with her whip. Peridot sent three more tin cans flying, where Garnet launched a rocket gauntlet, then explodes on the tin cans. The three are then seen laughing, while Peridot was complaining
"You're spying on us?" (Y/n) questioned.
"Well, I wouldn't call it spying, because that would make me feel bad." Lapis said in defense. "I couldn't stand not knowing what was going on. I'm so terrified of the Diamonds coming to Earth, but I got just outside the Milky Way, and I...felt so lonely."
"Then, you don't just come back on Earth, Lapis." (Y/n) tried to convince her. "I want to. But I just can't. Not after the way I left. What would Peridot say? What if the Diamonds show up? What if something bad happens?" Lapis began to question all the negative outcomes. "Well, what if something good happens?" Steven said. Lapis laughs at the statement. Steven and (Y/n) were confused on why she was laughing. Lapis began to sing to them.

It all became so lovely. Those bluest skies above me. Those funny feelings I had never felt before I met you. I thought I'd stay a while. I tried to learn to smile. So many colors I had never even known. Maybe I'd find myself sitting on that distant shore. Maybe I'm not alone. Then I see the colors fading. Gentleness of light escaping. Shadows of my fear invading. Have I seen this all before? I know that there's something residing. That terror deep inside me. I couldn't understand how you could be so bold. Maybe I'd find myself smiling on that distant shore. Maybe I'm not alone.

Lapis then begins to explain why she ran away. She didn't want to be involved in another war and she was too afraid to do anything. She felt bad that she had to leave behind Peridot and Pumpkin and take the barn with her. She just wanted to be safe, but she felt alone. Steven suggested that they could protect each other. (Y/n) thought that Lapis could drop the barn on the beach and all of them could be neighbors. They laughed about the fun events that could happened if they were neighbors. Steven begins to yawn, "When you go back, we should all hang out more."
"Steven's right. We could have some more fun together." (Y/n) adds.
Lapis smiles at them, "Hmmm...when...I go back." Those were the last words from Lapis they heard before they fell asleep.

"But this is what you wanted." Steven and (Y/n) wake up by a familiar voice and to find Lapis missing. "You begged us for a colony of your own." Steven and (Y/n) look up and saw the shadows of the Diamonds. "And now, all you want to do is be rid of it. First, there were too many organics, then their cities were too difficult to dismantle, and now, these Crystal Gems? We're tired of your excuses, Pink." Blue Diamond scolded Pink Diamond.
"The Diamonds!" Steven gasped.
"Mother. Aunt Yellow. Aunt Pink." (Y/n) whispered.
"This Rose Quartz can't hurt you. You can't be swayed by a few unruly gems." Pink Diamond tries to say something, but was silenced by Blue Diamond. "Enough!" Blue held Pink's chin up. "You must understand. You are a Diamond. Everyone on this planet is looking to you. You don't even have to do anything. Just smile, and wave. Show everyone you are unfazed by this little uprising. Your gems will fall into line, and these Crystal Gems will be no more. As long as you are there to rule, this colony will be completed." Blue finished her explanation. Both Yellow and Blue walk away leaving behind Pink. All of a sudden a shadow of Pearl holding Rose's Scabbard is seen walking towards Pink. Steven and (Y/n) gasped shockingly. Pearl draws the sword out from the sheath and raises it.
"Mom's sword?" Steven questioned at the scene in front of him and (Y/n).
"Wait...Is that...Pearl?!" (Y/n) gasped.
Pearl then looks at Steven and (Y/n) causing them to wake up screaming.
"Steven? (Y/n)? Are you guys okay? Were you dreaming?" Lapis tried to comfort them.
"We-We saw the Diamonds." Steven finally spoke.
"What?! What are you talking about?" Lapis demands.
"Steven and I dreamt about them. They were right in this room." (Y/n) explains.
"What does that mean?! Are they coming?" Lapis panics.
"I-I don't know." Steven stuttered.
"I don't know the answer to this either!" (Y/n) puts her hand on her head.
Lapis couldn't take it anymore. She stood up and ran down the stairs. Steven and (Y/n) ran after her. Lapis opens the door, causing Steven and (Y/n) to be nearly blown out to space. Luckily, Lion and Wolf were able to save them by biting the hoods of sweaters.
"Where are you going!?" Steven yelled out. "As far from Earth as I can. I'm leaving. You should be used to that by now." Lapis answers.
"You don't have to run, Lapis! Just stay with us! We can protect each other!" (Y/n) tried to convince her.
"I don't know what I was thinking! I-I'm not like you two and your friends. I can't just let go of what happened to me. I can't go through that again." Lapis expounded.
"But, Lapis, would you rather be alone?" (Y/n) questioned.
"I'm sorry." Lapis apologize.
"Waaaaaiit!" Steven and (Y/n) pleaded.
Lapis creates her water wings and flies away from the Moon Base. The door finally closes. Lion and Wolf released their human friends and nuzzles them in comfort. Both Steven and (Y/n) look back at the mural of Pink Diamond. Then they both look at Lion and Wolf.
"Lion, I need you to take us to Pearl."
"Same goes for you, Wolf. Can you take us to her?"
