based off of request by -trustandfall (I changed it a little bit to make the plotline more interesting)

plotline: Timothee and reader are lifelong best friends and he knows about her tense relationship with her father. One day at school, he sees a bruise and presses on the subject of what happened.

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU ARE EASILY UPSET BY ABUSIVE SITUATIONS!
(PLEASE IM BEGGING U ONLY READ IF U ARE COMFORTABLE)
warnings- abusive parental figure, angst, fluffy ending, protective Timmy lol

also I think I might start writing in 2nd person, it's more natural and like, will make more sense? If y'all want me to switch back to 1st, I will but imma try out 2nd for at least this chapter hehe

Life with your dad had never been easy. The temperamental and easily agitated middle-aged man was never much of a father figure. But ever since your mom passed away, he was all you had. So, you put up with his drunken rages and angry outbursts. Not only was the relationship you shared emotionally abusive, but he would often take it out in physical ways too. It happened rarely but when it did, you were left black and blue for the next week. Usually, you could hide it with a simple long sleeve t-shirt, or your favorite hoodie. This time, it wasn't that easy. Bruises covered your arms and chest, not to mention the black eye you had to received.

Walking into your literary arts lecture, you avoided all possible gazes. Yet there was one that was unavoidable. Timothee Chalamet, your lifelong best friend, he was the closest thing to family that you had. Though we had never dated, nor been romantic throughout our teen years, it seemed as if it was inevitable that you two would end up together. You were his Y/n and he was your Timmy. It was that simple, and you didn't want to make things more complex than they needed to be. Sure he had his girlfriends in high school, you were never much of a dater. But all the relationships he had ended eventually and you had always been the one to pick up the pieces. If there was anyone you couldn't lie to, it was him.

Timmy knew about your father and his tendencies, well, the verbal parts. You'd never told him about the violent acts you had endured, and you weren't planning on letting him know. But, when it comes to protecting you, Timmy would never let up when he knows something is wrong.

"Y/n! Hey!" Timmy yells out, grabbing your attention from the book you were reading. You gave him a quick wave and a quiet "hello" before retracting your gaze back into your book, hoping he'd take the hint that you wanted to be alone.

Of course, he didn't

"Why couldn't you make it to the cafe earlier? I was really hoping to see you!" He smiles coming closer to your seat, your breath hitching as he sits right next to you. Shrugging at his question you dismiss him and he frowns.

"Hey what's going on. Usually, my best girl loves to see me" He giggles nervously and lightly hits your shoulder. Hoping this was all a simple misunderstanding and that you weren't upset with him.

"I'm busy Timmy, school is stressing me out and I don't need extra distractions right now" You snap slightly at him hoping he wouldn't figure out what's actually wrong. He blinks as his face shows how taken aback he is by what you had said. Nodding slowly, he pivots his body back to face the front of the classroom.

"It's okay Y/n. You're amazing, I'm sure you'll do great. I'll sit here and be quiet as you read" He speaks slowly, scared to set you off again. Your heart warms at his ability to be so understanding after you were so harsh with him. Opening your mouth to apologize, you quickly silence when Timmy puts his hand comfortingly on your lower thigh. Smiling to yourself at the action, you focus your attention back on your book. Hair falling in just the right place to hide your bruise.
