I found myself on the street and looking around, sighing. I just picked a random direction and started to walk. I didn’t have my phone, nor my wallet, but I didn’t care.
I kept walking for about an hour, before coming up to a park and collapsing on the bench. I sighed, looking up.
The sky was beautiful today. I closed my eyes and took in a couple of deep breaths until I felt somebody slide into the seat beside me. Without opening my eyes, I held out my hand. Papers fell into then almost instantly. “You know I retired.” I muttered.
“I know.”
“So why are you approaching me?”
“Your brother has inconveniently disappeared.”
“You know I was always more in the shadows, right? I never did what Taemin did.”
“I’ve heard you’ve gotten more experienced.”
“How much?”
“Ten billion.” This peeked my interest. No target had ever been anywhere close to this amount of money.
“That much? Who is the target?”
“It’s all in the file. I expect an answer by tonight.”
“I’ll give you one now. No.” I handed the file back, finally opening my eyes. “I told you, I retired.”
“Ten billion can set you for life. You could go anywhere, do anything.”
“You do realize that the only reason I was in this business was because my brother forced me, right?”
“You were more reliable than him.”
“Go find him.”
“That’ll be extremely difficult.”
“Huh.” I muttered, uninterested.
“Just think about it?”
“Who’s the target?”
“Jeon Jungkook. He’s The owner and CEO of Blue Lily and the leader of the underground network in the U.S. commonly known as JK by his followers.”
“You know, I really wouldn’t mind taking this job, but I really can’t.” I stood, pulling my coat around myself. “Sorry for putting you down like this, Jay.”
“Ten billion. At least think about it.”
“I can’t. It’s not possible, really. Who called it in, anyway?”
“Someone from a different country. Russian, I believe?”
“Give me their contact information.” I suddenly blurted out.
“I thought you said you weren’t going to do it?”
“I’d still like the information. In case I change my mind. It depends on how the rest of the day is going to go.”
“Fine. Here’s the file, all of the information you need is in here, just like always.”
“Thanks Jay. Oh, and don’t take this personally, but fuck you.” Then, I turned and walked away. I held the file underneath my arm as I walked back the way I had come. About half an hour into the walk, a car approached me. I flipped off the tinted window as it passed me slowly. The car came to a stop, and I kept walking. “You are the last person I want to see right now.”
“Did you take another mission?”
“I’m debating. Really.” I turned to my old employer. “Why are you here? Last I heard, you’d fled the country.”
“It was safe enough to come back. Get in.”
“Like hell I will.” A gun was pointed at me and I rolled my eyes, turning and continued to walk.
“I’m not joking around, Taehyung. A problem came up and I need you.” I didn’t reply and flipped him off again. “V!” I stopped and whipped around.
“What the hell are you dropping that name for!? You know I hate it!”
“It’s the name you were given at birth.”
“I changed my name. So don’t use it old man.”
“Get in.”
“Fuck you. I’m going home.”
“Where’s that? Back to your lover?”
“So what if I am?”
“I know who’s targeting him and I can help you.”
“Sorry old man, but I am seriously debating on whether to shoot him or not, so I don’t even know if I want to help him or not.”
“You do. Trust me on this one.”
“Fine.” I stopped and slid into the car. “You have five minutes. Talk.”
“The buyer is the head of the Russian Mafia.”
“Of course. More Mafia leaders for me to deal with.”
“But he doesn’t actually want Jungkook dead. He wants Jungkook to settle some sort of personal grudge.”
“Fuck that, I’m out. I’m not getting mixed up in this shit.”
“V!”
“Stop calling me that!” I snapped. He smacked me on the head and I sighed.
“I personally want Jungkook to stay alive and in Korea. Without him, someone else would take over and that wouldn’t be in my interests. You’re one of my best, so I know I can trust you to help me with this.”
“Correction, I was one of your best. I retired, remember?”
“All too well.” He said flatly. “I still have the scar.”
“You deserved it old man.” The car pulled to a stop. “Times up. I’ll consider what you said. I’ll give you a call later.” I got out of the car. We’d pulled right up to my home. “Wait, how did you—“ but he’d already pulled away. I sighed and headed inside.
“Where the fuck have you been?” Jungkook asked as soon as I entered.
“Where’s Jimin?”
“Jimin and Seokjin went out. Where the hell have you been?”
“Out.”
“What’s that?”
“This?” I held up the file. “A petition to shoot you.” I pressed it against my mouth. “You’re very expensive. Ten billion I believe was the price to shoot you and bring you to the head of the Russian Mafia.”
“And why do you have that?”
“I used to be an assassin underneath Pops."
