Darkness.
What is this word that makes the world rumble?
What is it that takes away all signs of life? Is it darkness?
No.
It's the creator of it.
We are the creators.
We make it possible for feelings to sink lower than the depth of the ocean.
We let it reach the fire, that is our core, our reason for existence.
Darkness is a black flame that puts out the warm glow of our heart, enveloping our minds, our souls and our bodies.
Darkness is like a defense mechanism that humans bring into action when they're at a point where the sadness is so extreme, that everything becomes numb.
And that's when our own minds attack us.
Our own body starts fighting it's better side, telling it to shut up and get the lights away because they're too bright for the darkness to grow inside.
Then it consumes us, bit by bit the light is pushed away into the corners of our souls. "Momma, I'm scared!" We plead. But no one comes.
For momma had once said, "Breathe, just breathe and you know I'll be there," and so we do.
We take that deep breath, inhaling all of our fears, all the things that remind us of who we are, who we were and who we want to be.
We try so hard to let go of what we take in, but it's not that easy.
Our fears settle in and grow roots that reach deep into our veins and dissolve with our blood.
Some people force the darkness out of their lives.
Some get help to buy some light and then they learn how to grow it.
But most people feed the darkness.
Persistency comforts us and makes us fear minute changes.
Sure doctors can say that it's metathesiophobia.
They can give us the pills and call it a day.
But in the end, our mind decides what we want.
No doctor can make decisions for us.
Ghosts lie within us, they haunt us, but they never show themselves to others.
They're afraid to come out of their little nests or compartments that they have created for permanent use.
But we must fight it.
We must push out all the black, and invite the yellow, the light blue, the baby pink, the fresh green back into our lives.
We must repaint our skies with blue instead of the dull gray.
We must rip out the weeds from our minds and replace them with fresh seeds that will bring out the best in us.
We cannot fear the dark, for it isn't something that grows by its own.
We create it, therefore we must destroy it too.
And if that darkness decides to regenerate, we cannot attempt to cover it with pills or blur it out with smoke and drugs.
Wash them out with positivity, kind words, love, hope and most importantly light.
And you will see for yourself that as soon as you switch those lights on, the darkness will scamper away without a thought.
