Chapter 29

After the carpool karaoke, we drove back to the house, still laughing and singing along to random songs. By the time we walked through the door, our stomachs were full, cheeks aching from smiling, and the chaos of yesterday felt like a distant memory.

"Movie time?" Simon asked, tossing the McDonalds bags onto the counter.

I shrugged, smiling, "Sounds perfect."

We settled into the living room, sitting close on the couch. A film played softly in the background, but I honestly wasn't paying attention. My focus was entirely on Simon, the warm steady presence next to me, the gentle rise and fall of his chest as he breathed.

Simon nudged me with his elbow, a grin tugging at his lips. "You know, we should upload that video from the car."

I blinked at him, surprised. "You mean... the carpool karaoke?"

"Yeah." He leaned back, opening his laptop and scrolling through the footage. "It's just us, down to earth, talking and laughing. I think it's perfect for the channel."

Something warm bloomed in my chest. The idea that Simon wanted to share us like that — like me — made me feel... cherished.

"And what will the title be?" I teased, raising an eyebrow.

Simon froze, cheeks heating pink. "Meet Millie...?" His voice faltered, uncertain.

I couldn't help the smirk tugging at my lips. He looked so adorable like this — flustered, his blue eyes shining, dimples showing. "Go on," I encouraged, leaning closer.

Simon swallowed, clearly nervous. "Amelia... Watters... will you be my girlfriend?"

Time seemed to pause. I bit the inside of my cheek to hide the grin threatening to escape. "Sure," I said casually, shrugging, though the warmth inside me was exploding.

His face fell for a moment — then lit up, cheeks still rosy, a relieved smile spreading across his features. He scooted closer and lifted me onto his lap, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to my lips. I melted into it, everything else in the world fading away — the fear, the worry, just us here, together.

"You almost killed me there," he murmured, breathless, pulling back slightly.

I pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, smiling against his skin. "We're okay now."

I glanced at his laptop and changed the video title. Bold letters: 'Meet my GIRLFRIEND'. Simon's grin widened, and he snatched the laptop, clicking upload with a wink.

The sound of my phone ringing made me jump slightly. Freya. I glanced at Simon, who gave me a small shrug, and I answered.

"Hey gal," I said brightly.

"Hey! How are you?" Her voice carried excitement, background noise hinting she was out and about.

"I'm great, you?" I said, gesturing to Simon. "Say hi!"

Simon waved, flashing his smile.

"Oh hi Simon! Fab! We're on our way back and Cal's coming over to do a video. You in?"

I nodded vigorously. "Damn right!"

Soon enough, everyone was at the house: Will, Cal, Stephen, and Freya joined us. Cal explained he was recording an insults match, and Simon and I found a cozy spot together on a beanbag. He wrapped an arm around me, pulling me close as I rested against his chest.

Will, sitting next to me, extended a hand. "Hi, I'm Will. You're Millie, right?"

"Yeah! Nice to meet you," I smiled, shaking his hand. Simon, however, didn't seem to acknowledge Will, keeping a protective hold on me as if silently warning him off.

The insults match began. Cal fired the first line: "Your mum works for DPD." The room erupted in giggles. Stephen fired back: "You've been roasted so much your body thinks it's getting chemo again." Laughter filled the room, and for forty minutes we were absorbed in the game, Simon and I stealing occasional glances at each other, still wrapped up in our little bubble.

By the end, it was clear Stephen had won, but the fun of the day left all of us smiling — and me thinking, for the first time in a long while, that things were really looking up.

I am SO SORRY this chapter was a little shitty and shorter than they normally were but it was just a bit of a filler. But they are finally together!!! (Next chapter is 100x better)
