Chapter 9 Part 1

Sisters of Mercy

A/N: I'm going to be really busy with trying to make up the work I missed, so would you guys prefer short chapters frequently or long chapters that will take longer for me to publish?

Skylar's POV

We had made contact with Citizen Z and he told us about this guy Chester. CZ said Chester would have food and supplies for us. I was definitely up for the task having not eaten in a few days. I was hoping he had some medical supplies, a couple days ago we were running from some Zs when Cassandra's leg got caught on some barbed wire.

We were walking down a long hallway when we heard voices from near by. We waited until the voices got closer guns raised and ready to kill. Warren was in the front of us all "Hold it right there" she demanded. Whoever it was stopped and pointed their flashlights at us. One of the flashlights was pointed directly into Murphy's face. "Oh, it's the damn wonder twin"

W "Guys. What?" Addy and Mack? They're alive? They both went around hugging everyone. When they got to me I crushed them in a tight hug. Addy was like the sister I never had, and Mack reminded me of my brothers. The thought of losing them had been eating me alive. I was just happy they were ok and alive.

Doc "Never, I mean never, ever, in a million years, truly did I think I'd see you guys again"

Mack "Citizen Z send you guys?"

C "Yeah. He told us there was food and somebody named Chester who could help us out"

Mack "Yeah, he told us that too. We're starting to have our doubts"

W "Okay, well he should be, you know what, right down there. Let's hit it" We all start to follow Warren, Cassandra leaning on me while I help her walk. Warren walks to a door and knocks before opening it "Hello?" we follow Warren into the room and see Chester sitting on a chair with his back facing us.

A "Well I guess we found Chester. Hello, Chester" Addy used her Z wacker to beat Chester's head in.

M "Somebody got up on the wrong side of the apocalypse"

After Addy's little attack on Chester we hear Citizen Z's voice over a radio. "Chester? You got them yet? You got my team? Hello? Anyone?" We follow the his voice into a small room with a table and a small T.V. on the wall. "Warren? Addy, it's Hey, hey, hey! Up here! It's your old pal, Citizen Z. Oh, it's everyone. Hi, everyone. Hi! Addy, looking gorgeous as always. Oh, hey uh, you must be Mack. Huh, kinda thought you'd be taller"

Mack "I thought you'd be old enough to shave.

CZ "Hmmm. Wait who's the new girl? Last time I checked you weren't part of operation Bitemark"

Sky "I'm Skylar Gray. You must be the infamous Citizen Z"

CZ "The one and only... Hey, Murphy. Squeeze in so I can see you" Murphy moves so CZ can see him through the camera "Oh, hey. Yeah, lookin' good, sir. So guess what? I've got good news. California's back. They're alive and online, well most of them. But they're getting ready for you, and the dream is alive. The mission is a go, thanks to yours truly" None of us made any move to celebrate we probably looked pretty disappointed to him. "That's good news, right?"

10K "Good news would be a package of Oreos and a couple gallons of milk" I couldn't stop the smile spreading on my face from 10K's comment. Well... that and the thought of Oreo's... what I would kill for a package of those...

CZ "Oh, oh yeah, right. Sorry. Down the same hall, next door on your left. Should be everything that you need"

CZ "I can't tell you how good it is to see you all again"

Doc "Yeah. Good to see us too, kid" We all follow Doc out of the room to where CZ said the supplies were. Addy and Mack take a little longer talking to CZ.

There weren't many supplies at Chester's place but there was enough to get us back on the road. We were now in Utah and just got out of Salt Lake City, the whole place had been taken by Zs. Ever since we entered Utah I had been quiet. I used to live here... I lived in a small town just outside of Salt Lake, not a lot of people knew where it was. It was called Clinton and I lived there my whole life. Until the apocalypse now everywhere and anywhere is my home.

10K was standing in the van, the upper half of his body sticking out of the sun roof; he had his  sniper ready. I was sitting down thinking about my life before the apocalypse. "Ten o'clock" 10K banged on the top of the van and brought me out of my trance. I looked over the side of the truck to see a kid in a flower shirt walking down the road but he wasn't a kid anymore. Warren stopped the van and Addy jumped out with her Z wacker. Addy was about to kill the Z when she stopped. She stared at the Z as it slowly limped closer, it was about to attack her but Mack snapped her out of her trance "Addy!" at the last second Addy hit the Z in the head with her wacker killing it. Warren gets out of the truck and places a hand on Addy's shoulder. "Hey" "What? Fine!" Addy quickly gets back in the van and Warren follows, getting in the van and driving down the road.

It wasn't long before we saw another sad kid in a flower shirt "Heads up, we got a live one"

D "Another sad kid in a weird flowered shirt"

W "I got this one" Warren got out of the van and walked towards the flower shirt kid "Hey, whoa. You okay?"

Flower shirt kid "A little thirsty is all"

W "Of course. Hold on." Warren ran back to the truck and I passed my water up to Doc who handed it to Warren "Thanks" she walked back to the kid and handed him the water "Here you go, champ"

Flower shirt kid "Thanks, ma'am"

W "You can call me Roberta. What's your name?"

Flower shirt kid "I'm Sam"

W "Sam. Does your mom know you're out here all by yourself?"

Sam "Yeah. I'm going to Salt Lake City to see my dad"

W "That's not a good idea"

Sam "Yes, it is. I'm old enough now. I finally get to meet my dad"

W "It's too far. It's not safe."

Sam "Its not to far. Brennan and Dax are already there"

W "Sam..." Sam walks around her and continues to walk down the road towards Salt Lake. Warren puts the water back in the van and stops Sam "Uh, wait, wait, Sam. You're right. You are old enough to go see your dad. But here's the thing. We've run out of food. Can you help us?"

Same "My friend Helen could help you get some food"

W "Cool. Will you show us where they live?" Sam started to back away from her "Tell you what. You take us there, we will drive you to Salt Lake City" Warren holds her hand out for him to shake and seal the deal.

Sam "Okay" They shake hands and Warren leads him back to the van. Sam climbs into the back of the van and we all introduce ourselves. He seemed like a good kid, I can't believe he survived this long on his own. He obviously doesn't know how to kill Zs, or even defend himself.
