August 10, 2018

It was an ordinary, crisp autumn afternoon.

A day like no other.

Nothing too out of the ordinary which felt strange as today was my last day here.

Freshly graduated from university as all of last week was spent getting congratulated by our fellow professors who stood by us.

Parting ways with dearest friends who we will come to know and stay together by for a lifetime.

"Parting is such sweet sorrow"

That's what they say.

And now in this moment we say it to ourselves although not as star-crossed lovers.

Right now all of us decided to get drinks as I enjoyed my last remaining night.

"Here's to surviving four years of torture and being with each other through it all."

My friend had started off with as he raised his glass accordingly.

He then turned his head to me, giving me a bittersweet smile as he finished off his words.

"Since one of us is unfortunately gonna have to run and catch a plane tomorrow, which honestly is probably the most exercise I will ever see her do," his eyes focused on me.

We all laughed at his remark until he spoke again.

"Let's finish this off with a wild night we'll never forget,"

He turned his head back, his facial expressions changing from a somber one to an excited one.

"Until we meet again, cheers!"

"Cheers!" We all spoke in unison as we raised our glasses and toasted to the occasion.

I downed my drink in one shot, a habit I acquired spending my days here with these people.

Four years flew by quick as if it was just yesterday I came here.

It was both an end and a new beginning as I said the same goodbyes to my family and friend.

I can picture it now as clear as day.

September 15, 2014

Two weeks after my best friend's seventeenth birthday.

I finally made it to my dorm room after I finished talking to him and my overbearing parents on the phone.

I opened the door, surprised to see the room already decorated and some neatly folded clothes on top of one of the small beds.

I heard the water on from the closed bathroom door.

They probably decided to take a shower.

Looks like they already claimed their spot, so I opted for the other small single bed on the other side of the room.

I finally heard the water go off and the bathroom door open as she walked into the room.

"Oh looks like you're already here. I guess you're my new roommate" she said with a smile as she finished wrapping her hair with a towel.

"I guess I am" I said as I gave her a smile back and opened up my suitcase which was now on my claimed bed.

She nodded in acknowledgment, going over to her folded clothes. As she was turning to head back into the bathroom, she spoke again.

"So hey since you're new,"

I turned my head over my shoulder to look at her.

She smiled once more and continued.

"Some friends of mine are going to hang out tonight, want to come?"

I thought about it for a second before I nodded back.

"Sure."

"Great, well let me get dressed and we can get to know each other more."

With that being said she headed back in as I smiled to myself.

First day and I seemed to have made a new friend already.

Who soon became my other best friend here.

Now I sit among the more friends I have gathered over these years as we all reminisced different moments we've spent together.

I'm going to miss these guys but I'm excited to go back home.

Hopefully if I'm not too drunk after this night, I'll remember to call my family to remind them that I'm coming back.

But for now I let loose.
