"Darn, Yuge. I'm starting to get pretty hungry." He hums to himself, seemingly thinking. "I think there might be a restaurant not far from here. And with the second round started and neither of us in it, I think we'll be okay to go if were quick." "Sweet idea, Yuge!" I pat his shoulder, looking towards the clerk across the counter. "We'll be back in a couple minutes. Yuge and I are gonna get breakfast." "Wait a minute." The clerk immediately responds, taking something from below the counter. "We prepared for this. Take these with you. If you're called for your duel this thing will beep." "Okay. Thanks." I take both, handing one to Yugi and then pace-walking out of the Emporium. "Its starting to get a little warmer." I cover my eyes with my hand, looking up toward the sunlight. Yugi walks past me to the drivers seat. "Come on. Were on limited time, Joey." "Yeah." I nod, getting into the passenger seat. He turns on the car, then slowly driving off, taking a u-turn backwards from where we came. "Hey Yuge, I got something to tell you." I say, a bit nervous. Focussing on the road, he responds. "What is it, Joey?" I swallow my anxiety. "I'm pretty sure if you didn't join the tournament willingly, Kaiba was gonna trick you into joining. There was never any rule about using the scanner..." There is a second of pause, but then he responds with a chuckle. "Typical Kaiba. I'm glad to hear he hasn't changed in the time he's been gone." I nod slowly, looking at the floorboard. "I think he wants to face you in the finals, Yuge..." He simply smiles to that. "Well too bad. Because you're going to beat me in the qualifiers." "What? Do you honestly believe I can? I couldn't even beat you after about a year of you not playing." He laughs harder to that, making me feel perplexed. "Oh, Joey... You gotta believe in yourself, man. I mean, think about it. How you've always pulled through when you needed to. You saved your sister in Duelist Kingdom, you were a finalist in Battle City, and you even survived a bolt of lightning from Ra himself... You are stronger than you make yourself out to be, Joey." "Yuge..." My eyes well up, and I close my eyes. Could he really believe I can do it? That I can beat the King of Games? I just don't see it... But he is right. I have been through a lot to get where I am. "Were here, Joey." He parks in front of some small diner, and opens his car door, getting out. I follow behind, the cool breeze feeling nice against my hair. "Yuge... I'm sorry this tournament interrupted my visit. I'm sure this is a bit hectic." "Joey, its fine. I'm having a good time, and did you honestly think we wouldn't be spending our time playing Duel Monsters?" I can't help to chuckle, him knowing just how predictable I am. "Okay... Speaking of which, you played really well against that Rena girl." "Yeah..." His face goes dim, opening the door inside, and I follow behind him. We order something digitally on some kind of modulator on the counter. Yugi pays, and then we sit across each other in a window seat. "Yuge, whats wrong?" "That Rena girl... When I won, she passed out... Doctors showed up to take her away." "Yeah... I guess you're right. I guess that would kill the mood of a victory. I can't believe Kaiba would put up such sadistic rules." Suddenly, I realize something terrible. "Yuge... If we duel..." "Yeah..." He says, smiling small and understandingly. "One of us will pass out in the match... I'm not sure I have it in me to hurt you, Yugi." "Listen, Joey... If it comes down to that duel, then we have to promise each other that we'll duel to the best of our ability. No matter the cost." He sends his pinky out. "But Yuge!" "Pinky promise me that you won't let off for me. Because I don't plan to do it for you. I want your best, Joey. Just like in Duelist Kingdom." I hesitate, but I understand... I stick my hand out, wrapping my pinky around his. "Alright, Yuge. You win. But I expect you to fight with everything you got. No holding back on me." He nods, and we stare down for a short moment, but then a tray is slapped between us. Our food.
