A Gift

Yugi's Dark Magician Girl attacks and destroys my Armored Lizard in defense mode, leaving me open for a direct attack from his Axe Dragonute. I take an immediate 2000 direct damage, and my lifepoints drop to 2100. "Darn, Yuge. Despite everything, you still got the moves." He shrugs it off, answering. "I just have a connection to this deck, Joey... No matter how long it becomes, I will be in sync with it forever..." I smile, a bit speechless. "Unfortunately, my Dragonute is forced to defense position after an attack. I end my turn, Joey." I nod, drawing and looking at my field. The only thing there is a face down Fairy Box, and I'm down to three cards in hand. Yugi definitely has the field, but his lifepoints are about halfway gone. 4300. I still have a chance if I just make the right moves now. The card I drew was one of my new cards I earned through experience; Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight. With Legendary Sword in hand, this is perfect timing! "Joey, is something the matter?" "Not at all." I smile. "But there will be for you. I summon Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight!" His eyes begin to glow, interested in the new monster. "Wow, Joey. I hear thats a good monster!" "It is, Yuge. And you're about to see why! I activate my equip spell, Legendary Sword!" He begins smiling, seemingly proud of my move, considering that my monsters attack is just enough to defeat both of his monsters with the 300 point attack boost to his original 1800. I smirk, knowing that he thinks this is the most of my move. He doesn't realize just how much I improved. It will be a big mistake in this duel. "Sorry, Yuge. But I'm not done yet." "Huh? Really?" "Oh yeah! Remember sending my Red-Eyes to the graveyard wit' that Mirror Force of yours?" He begins to look a little worried. "Yeah?" "Well say hi! I activate Gearfried's effect by sending the Legendary Sword to the graveyard! I can bring back one Red-Eyes monster thats level seven or below! Rise, Red-Eyes Black Dragon!!!" Suddenly, we hear a muffled "Quiet down!" from outside of Yugi's apartment, and I suddenly feel dumb as Yugi yells "Sorry!" back. "Sorry, Yuge. Got worked up and woke your neighbor." He closes his eyes, smiling. "Its fine, Joey. This is really fun. Its only 9 PM anyway." I can't help but smile back to his childish demeanor, despite how truly grown up he's become. "Alright, Yuge. Gearfried, attack and destroy his Axe Dragonute." I point to it, smiling ear to ear as I have finally gotten back the upper hand. "It goes through." He says, placing his card in the graveyard. "Alright, Yuge. Say good bye to your Dark Magician Girl. Red-Eyes Flare Blast!" I point to it the same way, and suddenly Yugi starts laughing... "Sorry, Joey. But you know very well that I don't just rely on powerful monsters. Magic Cylinder." He flips over his trap, which directs my attack back to me as a direct attack... I get hit with 2400 lifepoints of damage... I lose, sighing. "That really was a good game, Yugi. But it seems that you still outsmart me every time. I thought maybe this time I could win..." I lower my head, my confidence dropping and I can't help but sulk a little. "No, Joey. You did really well, and you've definitely improved." I lift my head. "You really mean that, Yuge?" "I do, Joey. I think you can achieve your dream..." He smiles, and I smile back, standing up out of the floor and picking up my cards off the coffee table. "Thanks, Yuge... But I can't achieve my dream until I can beat you, the real King of Games... Heh..." He stands up too, putting his cards back into his gold egyptian box. "Oh, Joey... It may be true that I'm an obstacle in your chosen path, but that doesn't immediately make it impossible to reach. Here, take this." He pulls a card out of a slim deck box that has been laying on the table since I got here, and he reaches it out to me. Its a Red-Eyes monster... One I haven't seen before. "But Yuge, you've already did so much for me in terms of Duel Monsters that I... I just can't take this." He frowns. "Joey... I ordered this card from Pegasus in preparation for your visit... I wanted to give you a gift to help you on your journey... Its not like I can use it anyway. I asked Pegasus to make it for you..." "What? Make this card? Does that mean-" "Its the only one of its kind, Joey." I slowly put my hand out, and he places the card in it, not moving his hand for a moment. I could feel the heat from his hand... He was determined to get this card to me... For me... "Thank you, Yugi... Really." He smiles as I begin to look at the card. Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon... I won't forget this, Yugi...
