"I recently won the the duel circuit, Yuge. I felt pretty good when I got the medal for that one." Yugi smiles, his eyes glued to the road. "Thats really good, Joey. I'm proud of you for getting so much better in such a short time." I can't help but smile to that compliment. "It should be just around this corner. The Blue Eyes Emporium." "Alright." Yugi says, a little panicked. He takes a left turn as I study the cars map. "I think this is it." The car slows down, and a sign is being held up by a man in a suit. The sign reads Qualifier. "Yeah, dis' is it, Yuge." He nods, finding a place to park in the lot and then opening the car door. I follow behind, stretching when I get out. "Why is your car so dang small?" "Because I'm small?" He laughs a little, and we both head into the building that seems to have an open roof, kind of like a Coliseum. Theres a registry desk, and I decide to walk up to it. "I'm here for da qualifier." The clerk nods, pulling out some kind of weird contraption. "What is that?" "Its the deck checker. It checks your deck strength." "Wow, really?" Yugi says in response, instinctually placing his deck in the slot. The counter begins to spin and the clerk goes silent. It stops at 2387 points! "Wow, Yugi! Your deck still holds up strong!" "You're Yugi Mutuo? You're a lot taller on tv." The clerk smiles, handing him a registration form. "Oh, wait. I wasn't joining, I just wanted to use the-" The clerk sighs. "I'm sorry sir, but only contestants get to use the checker. You're already digitally registered just by being over 1500 points. I'm afraid you don't have a choice." "Oh..." Yugi says, frowning and looking down at the deck and his form. "Surely you can make an exception, Mr. Clerk. Yugi here doesn't want to duel in this tournament. You gotta let-" "I'm sorry, sir. I follow Kaiba's orders." "Hey, wait a min-!" I raise my fist, and people gasp in the room. "Joey, I'll do it. Who knows, maybe it will help you improve." I sigh. "Alright, Yuge." I slowly place my deck on the scanner. The numbers begin to spin. I couldn't help but get a little nervous as Yugi filled out his form. The power stops on 1826, which was definitely good enough for me! "Congratulations, sir. Here is your registration form." I take the form from him, picking up my deck. "Thank you, sir." We begin walking over to the seats inside the room, but then I overhear the clerk from before. He has a finger on his ear. "Seto Kaiba. I got Yugi Mutuo into your tourney." I only heard muffled noises on the other side, but then the clerk speaks again, into his earpiece. "I had to trick him in a little, sir. He wasn't planning on going on his own." Muffled noises again. "Yes, sir. Everything's going according to plan." He finally lets his finger down, leaning on his hand, waiting at the counter. "Joey? Why are you still standing?" Yugi looks at me, confused. I walk over and sit beside him. "Sorry, Yugi. I was in a bit o' a daze." "Its okay, Joey." I go silent for a moment. "I'm sorry you were forced into these qualifiers, Yuge." He elbows my side lightly, chuckling. "Joey, its alright. I'm sure Kaiba would hate it if I didn't join anyway." "Yeah... He would hate it." I dead-eye the clerk again, thinking about how dirty that was to trick Yugi into the tournament. I wonder if I should tell him? No matter. Maybe later on, but I better focus on my dueling. Its almost the starting hour, and I'm sure two people in this room will be called against each other. Question is... Who?
