Evalin was laying on her bed when there was a knock on the door. "Come in!"
Her dad stepped inside her room and joined her. "How's my beautiful trouble maker doing?"
She hugged him, "I'm debating whether it'd be worth it to run away from training today or not."
He laughed and kissed the top of her head. "I think it'll be worse for you if you run."
She groaned already dreading what was coming. "What are you doing here anyway?" She asked him.
"What, can't I come spend time with my daughter?"
She pulled away from the hug and raised an eyebrow at him. "You're hiding from mom, aren't you?"
"She baked a cake." He said.
She scrunched her nose in disgust, "Oh, no."
"Exactly."
"But, wait..." Her eyes widened, "If she can't find you that means-"
"Oh! You're both here."
Evalin and her father shared a worried glance as her mother stopped in front of them with a plate in each hand.
"Here," she handed them a plate with cake. "Try this."
"I-um-I-" Evalin stuttered.
"Yes?" Her mother smiled at her and not a kind smile, no. The smile said, "If you want to live then eat it."
"I can't wait to try it." She said in a 'cheerful' tone.
Her mom looked at her husband and mate. "I thought you were hiding from me."
"Me? What? Pff I would never hide from you, fireheart."
She nodded at them, "I'm pretty sure this one is delicious." That is what you said about all the others and they tasted like crap.
Evalin and her father grabbed their forks and took a bite of the cake. She forced herself to chew and tried not to throw up. "Mm, it's so good." She lied with her mouth full. "Right, dad?
He nodded, "Mhm."
Her mom clasped her hands together and smiled, "I made a chocolate flavor one too, I'll be right back." With that she left the room.
Her dad spat out the cake and she followed suit. "Oh, Gods that's terrible." He said.
"That is worst than the last one." She gagged, "I'd take training over this any day."
He stood from her bed, "Let's get out of here before she come back."
Evalin nodded and followed him to the door, he smelled the air to see if she was nearby then he gave her a nod to indicate the coast was clear.
They ran down the hallway and when they made to take a right turn, they bumped into someone.
"Uncle Fenrys." She sighed, "It's just you, thank Gods."
He looked at them relieved then gave them a suspicious look, "Why were you two running?"
"We were not running." Her dad said. "Why were you running?"
Her uncle looked behind him then back at them, "Aelin wants me to taste her cakes." He shivered in disgust.
"Same," Evalin told him. "She made us taste the vanilla one and is now on her way to get us the chocolate one."
He made a choking noise, "I didn't taste the vanilla one, but I can tell you that thing did not taste like chocolate."
They looked around the hallway, "To the usual place?" She asked them and they nodded.
