Gabriel stepped forward from the smoke clouds right up to Magnus who was still from the shock of seeing him.
"H-how is this possible? No one summoned you here?" Magnus stuttered with shallow breaths.
"Magnus Bane, how are you doing?" Gabriel paced around taking in the the scenery around him. "It's been quite a while since I last saw you. A lot has changed since you were ruling alongside your father. For one, you can't use your magic anymore. Guess your relationship with asmodeus hasn't improved since you left."
"Let's cut the small talk Gabriel. What are you doing in the mundane realm? Has hell become boring for you?" Magnus asked with a tone of mocking trying to hide the fear in his voice. If Gabriel has travelled to the human world without being summoned, he must've amassed great power to be able to move freely like that.
"I'll keep it short Magnus, my reason to be here is....you." Gabriel now standing face to face with Magnus, barely any distance between them however Gabriel's full figure and height towered over Magnus making him shiver with fear.
"Me?" Magnus was shocked. "What use do you have with me? I've given my magic back to my father, in case you haven't heard."
Gabriel smirked. "You really think Asmodeus would do that? What a waste. He simply made it so you can't use it anymore, but it's yet to leave your body. Why do you think you still have your warlocks mark? Or that you haven't withered away by your age catching up to you yet. Your magic and immortality go hand in hand with each other, you fool."
Magnus has never really stopped to think about these things yet. Though he knew and feared that his immortality would be taken as well with his magic, he's baffled as well by the turn of events. He hasn't told anyone, including Alec, that he still felt his powers in him, but can't seem to summon it. Gabriel studied magnus's face as his brain tried to take in this information.
"Magnus, I want you to join me, to take all the realms of Edom from your father. I want nothing from your precious mundane world. I just want mine."
Magnus looked at Gabriel incredulously, " and how do you suppose I do that? I don't think I can just relinquish my powers if I am unable to control them."
Gabriel laughed, "as long as you're willing, the rest you let me worry about."
Magnus was about to reply when clary and Izzy erupted from behind the smoke and lunged at Gabriel. Izzy caught him with her whip and clary strikes her blade into his chest. Gabriel roared with laughter before disintegrating into ashes. The smoke cleared leaving Magnus, Clary and Isabelle alone again, Gabriel's laugh still hanging in the air. Simon emerged after a little while from behind a large oak tree.
"You ok Magnus?" Simon asked. " What was that?"
Everyone turned to look at Magnus, searching for answers, clearly bewildered that Magnus wasn't hurt. Still in shock, Magnus stood silent before snapping back to reality when Izzy placed her hand on his shoulder.
"That was Gabriel, Aamon's father." Magnus breathed.
"Aamon's father? As in prince of hell? That one?" Clary asked, not believing in what she just heard.
"Yes, Aamon's father, prince of Judea." Magnus replied still in a daze.
"I think we need to report this to the institute right away." Isabelle said, the natural critical thinker of the group. "We can't have a repeat of what happened with Lilith again."
The group started to move but stopped when they saw that Magnus did not follow behind them.
"Magnus come on!" Izzy waved
"I'm sorry Isabelle, I promised Alec that I won't set foot in the institute without him there."
Alec haven't told Izzy what happened at magnus's apartment a few weeks ago, mainly because he didn't want to stir up unnecessary drama with Aamon. Izzy understood why Alec was opposed to having Magnus be at the institute without him. There were still more than a few shadowhunters who didn't really approve of their relationship. And now since Magnus can't use magic, being there without Alec makes Magnus too vulnerable to taunting and whatever tricks those closed minded people will play. Izzy looked over to Clary, hoping she can give some insight on what to do.
"Magnus why don't you come with us back to the institute? I can send Alec a fire message to let him know you're going to be with us. We can't possibly leave you alone when this greater demon has access to the mortal world at anytime. We have to keep you safe and figure out a plan."
Magnus pondered for a while. Gabriel could've captured him there and then, before clary and Izzy came back, why did he want Magnus to surrender himself willingly? He decided it would be best just to go with the group, the institute would be safer for everyone and they can question Aamon to get to the bottom of things.
"Alright, let's go then."
The group headed to the institute, Magnus walked with them in silence unable to shake off the feeling of impending doom.
