My alarn clock suddenly rang. It was time to get up. I know I have to get up but my legs are weak. I just cannot make them move. My throat also hurts. I touched my forehead. My God! I'm so hot! I hate being sick in Japan. Since I live alone and my friends are living in other cities in Osaka, it's difficult to get some help when I need one.
I forced myself to get up. First, I tried to sit slowly. When I was able to do it, I crawled towards my refrigerator to get some water. I need to drink some water. My throat felt like it would crack when I tried to swallow the liquid. When I tried to stand up, the room seemed to move. I nearly fell down. I crawled again towards my bed where my cell phone is. I called Kōchō-sensei and I told him I will be absent for the day. He asked me to see a doctor right away. I just said yes and we said our goodbyes. How could I go to a hospital when I cannot even walk towards my refrigerator?
I felt like going back to sleep again but an inner voice tells me that I need to take some paracetamol. I need to eat something so I can take some medicine. I crawled again towards my refrigerator and looked for something to eat. I found some leftover oatmeal. It was already dry but better than nothing at all. I put it in a microwave and heat it up. Then, I put some condensed milk and forced myself to eat it. After like a decade, I was done eating. I took some paracetamol and drank a lot of water. When I returned to my bed, I saw my cell phone blinking. I have three messages. The two came from the Fuji-twins and the other was from Hiromi-sensei. They were all worried about me. I just replied a simple, "I'm okay." Then, I went back to sleep.
I don't know how long I have been sleeping when I was awakened by the sound of a buzzer. At first, I thought I was just dreaming. But it never stopped. I wanted to ignore it but it seemed like it will go on and on forever ... I tried to get up slowly. I was expecting my head to be a bit heavy because of the fever, but it was bearable. Better than hours ago. When I tried to stand up, my legs were a bit stronger this time. A little wobbly but okay. I hurried to the door. I even forgot to look at the monitor first. I just wanted to get it over with so I can go back to sleep.
"Hi. I heard you're sick so I came to bring you some food just in case you're too weak to cook."
I stared at my visitor. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was thinking about him before I went to sleep, wishing he was there beside me and now...he's here! Before I can say anything, he reached for my forehead and put the back of his hand on it.
"You're hot," he said. There was some twinkle in his eyes for the double meaning of the word. "Can I come in?"
"Oh, uhm----uhm, my room is a mess. Can I just take this food? You may come in some other time," I said. But he ignored me. He went straight inside, after taking off his shoes. He placed it neatly near mine which is close to the door. I don't know what to do. I hurried to tidy things up but he already saw my newly-washed undies - panties and bras hanging by the window. I saw him smile. I blushed. Without looking at him, I snatched them and put it inside my closet. I also tried to fix my bed and put the rags in their proper places.
"It's okay. You don't need to waste your energy in tidying things up. Why don't you just sit down and eat the obento I brought for you?"
Without saying a word, I sat on the floor and put the obento on the table. As I was about to eat, I noticed him staring at me - at my - gosh! I forgot I was not wearing any bra and my camisole is too thin! So stupid of me! I immediately crossed my arms to cover my chest and I grabbed a robe from my closet.
"I'm sorry. I just couldn't help myself," he said, laughing lightly. I gave him a cold stare.
I ate in silence. When I was done, I drank a lot of water again. My mother always says that drinking a lot of water when one has a fever helps one feel better. That's why I kept on drinking. I tried to pretend he was not there with me but his presence is just too much. He really had the power to rattle my nerves. It's difficult to act normal around him.
I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I also tried to wash my face which had become a little oily. When I returned to my room, there he was comfortably lying on my bed while watching TV. He seemed at home. When he saw me coming, he got up and motioned for me to lie down which I did. I thought he would be sitting on an empty chair in front of my study table but he lied next to me!
"Hayato!" I protested. "You can sit on the chair."
"I don't like wooden chairs. It's not comfortable," he replied. "Don't worry, I will not do anything to you which you don't like," he murmured and traced the outline of my lips..
I gulped. My heart was beating fast. It feels like I just ran for a hundred miles. I can't stop myself from blushing as well. I feel like a school girl.
"P-please d-don't make fun of m-me," I replied, a little irritated. Was I that obvious? Was he making fun of my emotions?
"I'm not," he whispered and kissed my forehead. "Sleep, I'll watch over you."
"How do you expect me to sleep when there's a stranger in my bed?" I complained.
He laughed lightly again. "I'm not a stranger. We have known each other for quite sometime now. Don't worry. I only came to make sure you are taken cared of. Trust me. I don't have any bad intentions. If I do something to you, I'm pretty sure the twins would be mad," and he laughed again.
It seemed like he has no intentions of leaving my bed so I just turned to the other side, my back towards him and tried to get some sleep again...
