Chapter 7 - Enemies and Friends

How can she lie to both her best friends that she has known for so long She even lied to her own brother...! ... maybe instead one of them as a significant other...

She blushed at the thought of one of them as her mate. She lied down on her bed and fell asleep...

After her nap, Sophie woke up and did a little homework. She didn't do a lot but just enough for the teachers to not notice and to allow her to pass. Daniel then came running in the room as she finishes her last question. "Can we go to the park?! I'm bored!" He whined as his tail was wagging 100 times a second. She looked at him, smiled, and nodded a 'yes'.

He let out a small 'yip' and went to go get ready. Meanwhile, Sophie was just think but soon started heading downstairs and waited for Daniel. When Diablo and Delilah brought them to the park, he would always bring a small red rubber ball and play with it. It's been a while since they went to the park so it took him a little bit to find where he last had it. As Sophie was opening the door, she saw a few younger teens with backpacks and a recording camera. She didn't want them seeing her and Daniel and they seem like their looking for something or someone...

"I think they live around here somewhe-"

"THEY BETTER! I didn't come out here for nothing!" One shouted, he sounded manly and stern and Sophie guessed it was the leader.  "You think we can make a load cash off their wings or feathers?" Another asked with a devilish chuckle. Sophie's eyed widen and quietly told Daniel to hurry. Once he found the ball they both went out the backdoor and as Daniel hopped on her back, she lines up fireballs around the house as a warning sign. She then took off but stayed out of sight as the teens started inspecting the fireballs.

When they got to the park, many wary adults took their children and left leaving only a few more kids and parents but they soon became wary of the two. As soon as Sophie landed, Daniel ran to the playground while Sophie sat down on one of the nearby benches. Some of the adults became nervous and shifted away from both of them. As Daniel played, Sophie just took in the fresh air and watched as the kids played as people and toons walked by.

As time passed, Sophie saw... Mugman!? A smile appeared on her face as the mug headed boy walked her way. She got up and started walking to him but then noticed someone else by his side. It was Boris! The smile grew larger and her tail started wagging fast. Her two best friends together with her in one place! She speed walked to them and when they saw her a smile, one appeared on their face just as wide.

"Hi guys! How are you?" She said excited, she was practically bouncing in her place. She always felt so happy around them, she felt like she could trust them with her life.

"We're doin' okay! You?"

"I'm great now that I've seen you two!" She said with a closed-eyed smile.

"It always good to see you smile!" Boris said giving a similar closed-eyed smile. A light blush was dusted across her cheeks but ignored it and they started talking about what has been happening over the past 2 weeks. It stopped when they saw an upset Daniel running to them.

"They took it! They took it and pushed me!" Mugman and Boris just looked confused but then changed into a worried expression when they saw Sophie's upset and worry filled face.

"What happened??" She was clearly upset but more worried that someone pushed him. Dirt was on his shirt and pants and a dirt filled hand prints on the middle of his shirt. His eyes had tears that threatened to spill. He then pointed to the teens that they saw before and she quickly hid her wings and tightly folded them behind her back.

"They pushed me a-and took m-my ball!" Mugman had a look of sympathy but Boris looked at them with a slightly angered expression. Sophie however was furious but tried remained calm.

"D-Don't worry! We'll get it back! Trust me, when I'm done with them they won't bother you anymore." She said and he gave a hopeful smile but soon went away remembering some other time in the past when someone hurt him at a playground and worrying about what she is gonna do. Mugman put comforting hands on Daniel's shoulders while Boris and Sophie went to go talk to them.

Boris knows she didn't want them to see she's actually an angel wolf so he stayed with her in case they got 'curious'. The smirked when they saw her and asked, "Well, is this weak-ass girl gonna pick a fight? Or is she gonna make her 'boyfriend' to do it for her? Hahahaha!" They laughed and she was fuming, too angry to be embarrassed.

"She is very strong I'll have you know mister!" Boris said with his ears perking up in defense. They had always been protecting each other ever since they met and he wasn't going to stop now. They laughed but then said, "Do you really want to spend 2 weeks in hospital?" He said with a semi serious expression and voice. Boris backed up slightly getting a bit nervous at the mention of being hurt but quickly regained his confidence.

"I don't want to fight. Just give the kid's ball back, please." He said. They laughed and came closer. "You don't expect me to-" The leader was cut off by Sophie's wing smacking him right in the face, causing the leader to drop the ball and stumble back. Boris quickly grabbed the ball and they both ran for it towards Daniel and Mugs. As the leader was trying to regain his balance the other two saw Mugs and dragged their 'Master' away since they both knew that he was the younger brother of Cuphead. They were some of the few people who have witnessed what the blue and red cup's power can do to a person.

Daniel had a huge smile on his face when he saw his ball in Boris' hand but was suddenly picked up. Mugs realized what was happening and picked up Daniel up and ran with Boris and Sophie not knowing the males had planned on abandoning the fight. They cursed out at them but they could barely hear them. They made it to the other side of the large park and took a minute to catch their breathe.

"Thanks for getting my ball back Boris!" Daniel chimed as his tail swayed happily.

Boris just gave a closed eyed smile and said, "You're welcome!" Sophie gave Boris a hug and thanked him and Boris hugged back with both their tails wagging. Mugman mentioned it was getting late and they should head home. Sophie agreed and they all said their goodbye's. Daniel got back on Sophie's back and she flew them both home as Mugman and Boris were walking home. As she landed, she noticed the fireballs were gone and the little electricity illuminated the inside of the house from forgetting the lights were on. As they walked inside, Daniel went to go get ready for bed and to take a shower after having dirt everywhere on him and Sophie gently placed new fireballs down. Sophie then went inide to get ready for bed. Diablo already taught Daniel how to use the shower himself since it was part of him being independent so Sophie didn't really have to do anything but wait til he was done.

After Sophie tucked Daniel in bed, Sophie went to her own room and flopped onto her bed, back down. She stared at the ceiling thinking about what the town's people thought of them. Either something from Satan and hell itself or an easy way to get money. She pushed them aside and fell asleep with the thoughts still floating around in her mind... but when she fell into her 'dreams', she heard a deep chuckle as if it was Satan and the soon blank room became black with only the green glow from her heart-shaped soul illuminating the small space around her...
