The Demon in My Mind [Discontinued]

Chapter 8 - It All Begins

She pushed them aside and fell asleep with the thoughts still floating around in her mind... but when she fell into her 'dreams', she heard a deep chuckle as if it was Satan and the soon blank room became black with only the green glow from her heart-shaped soul illuminating the small space around her...

'HELLO MY DEAR...'

The voice sounded deep, ominous and yet smooth and charming. Sophie looked around for the source of the voice while only having her glowing soul as her source of light. "Who are you? Where are you?" She called out, frantically looking around but no one was visibly there.

'I'M EVERYWHERE'

A face then appeared in place of darkness. It's eyes were sunken in and it's mouth was curled into a terrifying and toothy smile. Very toothy... Sophie tried to back up but couldn't. It was like she was frozen in place. It came closer and chuckled darkly at her. It spoke up again:

'I'M YOUR FEAR, SORROW, DESPAIR'

It moved closer. Close enough to feel how sad and frightening its aura was. She tried to talk but nothing came out. She couldn't get her mouth to move and her voice to be heard. It put is claw close to her still brightly glowing soul.

'THIS IS YOUR LIFE SOURCE, YOUR MENTALITY, YOUR WHOLE BEING, IS IT NOT~?'

It said, its voice booming with a toxic yet charming sound.  Its claw came closer and wrapped her soul in darkness. Tears started pouring from her eyes as she clutched where her soul once was. It hurt. It hurt so much. It felt like a thousand knives. She felt herself getting weaker.

'YOU HAVE BEEN TAINTED BY THE DARKNESS. FEEL IT. FEEL ITS PAIN AND SUFFERING. JUST AS THIS WORLD HAS CAUSED YOU. LET THE DARKNESS TAKE OVER YOUR SOUL.'

The feeling grew stronger and the pain grew. She felt weak, tired, drained of life. She now hangs there in the darkness waiting for something else to happen. The green glow now faded into black. The demon started fading into the darkness surrounding them as it chuckled darkly.

'YOU WILL SOON SEE. YOU WILL BE ONE OF US. YOU WILL BE ONE WITH THE DARKNESS. DARK THINGS...HAHAHAHAHA.....'

[TRIGGER WARNING] As its laugh faded...Sophie woke up, surrounded by blood and darkness. She frantically looked for a light switch or light source. She flipped on the light and the blood was everywhere on her arms, the floor, and hands. She panicked even more but then froze when she saw the cuts on her arms and wrists.

'D-Did I do this...?'

She thought as she inspected the fresh cuts. Sophie then proceed to clean and wrap her new injuries. She started feeling that same weak feeling she did in her nightmare. She leaned over the sink and closed her eyes and thought about what the shadow said.

. . . . . .

*KNOCK KNOCK* "Sophie...? Sophie a-are you in t-there...?"

It was Daniel...

Her eyes shot open and came back to reality. She tried to clean herself and the bathroom before she opened the door. She opened the door to see her brother with a worried look on this face, his ears pinned to his head, and tears threatening to fall from his crystal blue eyes. Sophie's ears lowered as she saw the state of the younger wolf. "W-What were you d-doing...? Y-You scared m-me last n-n-night." He said with a shaky voice. She responded, "It's nothing you need to worry about. I'm sorry I scared ya but how did I scare ya?" she questioned not really remembering anything after she left the nightmare. "Your fur was all b-black and you were p-pacing in the h-hall. You then locked yourself in the bathroom and I heard you giggling at something." He said still shaken up, even talking or remembering about it. Sophie pat his head and reassured him that everything was fine. "I must've had a weird dream or i sleep walked in the bathroom hehe!" She laughed.

This seemed to cheer him up a bit because he started laughing at the thought of what her dream could've been. A land made of candy or food land? He giggled at the thought of his sister chasing after a massive lollipop. "Hah, there my happy wolf boi! C'mon, let's go find something to eat and get the day started." she said with enthusiasm coating her words. "Okay!" He said giving a closed-eyed smile and ran into his bedroom to put on his favorite outfits. Sophie walked to her as her smile faded with each step. She was happy to make her brother happy but at the same time, how was she gonna be there after the nightmare. She knew it wasn't just something her mind conjured up out of the blue for a bad dream but instead a warning or something. That's what she was hoping that was not the case, but she watched out for herself either way. She had to be there for Daniel.

After they had both gotten dressed and ready, Daniel rode on Sophie's back as the flew into town. They ran out of supplies so they went to get fresh food. As the two were walking, Sophie being a bit overprotective after what happened the last time, Daniel smelled the smell of a freshly baked apple pie and cinnamon pastries. He started running towards the smell as Sophie trailed behind him. He came to a stop where they found a small bakery named 'Star's Delicious Delights' They walked in and immediately got hit with the fresh smells of all the baked goods that were being made or put on display.

"Hello there! Welcome to my bakery!"

Sophie looked over to see a woman with milk chocolate brown hair and emerald eyes. She wore a bright smile that could light up a dark room and she seemed to be putting another pie on display. Apple pie to be exact. Sophie put on a smile and waved back saying hello. Daniel ran up to where the apple pie was and asked in a very excited tone, "One slice please?" he asked as his tail wagged fast. The woman nodded and cut up a piece to put on a plate for him. After she gave him his plate the woman turned towards Sophie and asked, "Did you want anything?" she questioned as her sweet and cheery voice lingered in Sophie's mind. "I-I'll have a s-slice too p-please!" She said, trying to sound confident and social. The woman gave her the slice and Sophie payed back the amount due. "Are you the owner of this bakery?" Sophie asked trying to break the ice a bit. "Yes I am. My name is Robyn but everyone calls me Star!"She responded with a smile so sweet it was sweeter than the sugarcookies.

Sophie's cheeks were dusted with a hint of pink but tried to keep her composer. "Such a cute name! B-Both I mean." Sophie said. Star responded with a thank you as she handed Sophie the change. "I-I'm Sophie by the way and this is my younger brother, Daniel!" She put a paw on his head. "Hi!" he said with some of the pie in his mouth. Star giggles at how cute he was and grabbed a pen and piece of paper. After she was done write she handed the paper to Sophie. "Heh why don't we hang out sometime!" Robyn said giving a closed-eyed smile. Sophie tried to repress the blush that was about to explode on her cheek. "Y-Yeah we should! We s-should probably get going n-now though. Daniel hates it if we miss breakfast." She replied nervously as she could already feel the smol wolf pulling on her hoodie. "Let's goooooooooooooooooooo!" He whined as if the food might disappear if they waited too long. She nodded and waved a goodbye as they both walked out the door. Star waved goodbye and a small blush formed on her cheeks.

As they were walking toward one of Daniel's favorite parks, she was looking over how the interaction went. She then questioned...

'D-Do I like girls?"

She felt some way. Some weird way, it was something she never felt before. She then sat down at a picnic table and ate thinking about Star and what she really felt.
