10. Perfect

"Maddy?"

Walang sumasagot sa kabilang linya. Two minutes na ang call duration. Hindi ko rin naman maibaba dahil siyempre, si Maddy 'to. Baka magalit na naman 'yon kapag binabaan ko e.

"Maddy, nandiyan ka ba? Ibababa ko na." Sinubukan kong magpaalam.

"Don't." Halos pabulong na anas niya.

My heart jumped when I heard her voice. Automatically, a smile formed in my lips. However, I felt worried at the same time too.

"Are you okay?"

Hindi na naman siya sumasagot. Geez. Ano'ng problema nitong mahal ko? Hindi ako mapakali rito sa pag-aalala sa kanya.. May problema ba siya?

"Madellaine?"

Still, there was no answer. But I can hear her heavy breathing from the other end.

"Gusto mo lang talagang marinig ang boses ko ano? Nami-miss mo 'ko Maddy?" Sinubukan kong asarin baka kasi magsalita siya. Mabilis siyang mapikon kapag iniinis ko. Malay natin baka mag-work. Kaya lang, wala parin e. Tahimik parin siya.

"I know there's something wrong, Maddy." I said seriously. "I can come over if you like to."

"No. Don't." Tipid na niya namang tugon.

"Okay. Baby, talk to me." There was no answer aside from silence. Maaadddddy! I don't read your mind.

"Alright, fine. Your silence means yes. Madellaine, are you alright?"

She didn't answer again.  Ugh. Madddddy!  Why is this woman so complicated?

"Date tayo, Maddy." She didn't say anything. "Alright. That's considered yes." I assumed and cracked a soft laugh to annoy her and eventually make her speak.

"Anyway, I'm sorry about the date too. Maddy, hindi ako nambabae. Kaklase ng pinsan ko 'yong hinatid ko sa infirmary. Bigla kasing nahimatay." Pagpapaliwanag ko sa kanya. "Alam mo sungit, hindi ako titingin sa iba. Kaya kung ako sa'yo, sagutin mo na ako."

"Grabe ka din. Hindi mo pa nga ako nililigawan." Sagot niyang nagpabangon sa'kin sa kama. Ang bilis ng kabog ng puso ko.

"So pwede kitang ligawan?"

Hindi na naman siya sumasagot. Oo ba ang sagot niya? Napangiti ako.

"Gusto mo narin ako Maddy diba?"

No answer. Yes? Was it a yes? Damn, why am I hearing my heartbeats like it's the only thing that has a sound? Ang lakas eh.

"You love me."

"Love agad?" She spoke up and I can imagine her giving me a questioning look with a restrained smile.

"Oh. So..." Para na akong timang sa kakangiti ko ngayon. "So you like me then."

"Where did you get that kind of confidence, Palmer?" Tanong niya sa usual niyang tono, nagsusungit.

"Sos. Ba't ka ba kasi nahihiyang umamin? Nararamdaman ko Maddy. Gusto mo 'ko."

"Wala akong dapat na aminin." Patuloy niya sa pagtanggi. "Hindi kita type."

I smiled. I hear no conviction in her voice or maybe I am just too overconfident. Whatever way, tonight should not end like this.

"Maddy."

"What?"

"I'll see you in fifteen minutes."

"What? No!"

"Come on, my love. Don't just exist. You should live." I said and ended the call.

About almost twenty minutes later, I have my car parked outside their house. I didn't call Maddy to inform her that I was outside. I just sent her a text message. Not long after ten minutes, she got out.
